I am going camping next week and wondering if I use my iPhone around/near a bonfire/camp fire would this cause the iPhone to smell smokey? And could this damage the phone?

You shouldn't have anything to worry about. Might smell a bit but nothing that won't go away after a couple of days.

Anything that's downwind of smoke will end up smelling of smoke. Clothes, you, the tent, your sleeping bag, steel, glass. Wood burning smoke sticks to everything. But eventually... the odor disappears especially after stuff gets washed

I wouldn’t light a fire, or go near a fire.. maybe just stay inside if you are unsure of such things. Does your phone smell like ear after you hold it near your head? Does your phone smell like nose after you smell it?

Just make sure to only use it inside one of these:

I’ve used my phone near several fires and bbqs. The smell doesn’t stay on the phone like your clothes. Smoke hasn’t harmed my phone. I don’t let it get hot though. Smoke won’t hurt it.

Smoke won’t do anything but be careful with little embers falling on the phone. I have a few marks on my oleophobic coating from being too close.
