Yesterday my iPhone told me I needed to connect to iTunes to restore it. Once that's done you can restore the phone from the last time you backed it up on iTunes, which for me was about a month ago. Bummer but at least I'd have most of my information back.

I clicked to restore the iPhone from my month old back up, a few minutes later iTunes told me I could not restore the phone from the back up because my computer was out of space. I made more space on my computer (by moving some photo files to an external harddrive). And emptying my trash. When I looked at my trash a file was in there by the name of iPhone3,1_4.1_8B117_Restore.ipsw. I took that file out of the trash figuring it was my backup I needed and placed it on my desktop.

Now iTunes is telling me the last time I backed up my iPhone was in August 2010. COME ON GODDAMMIT! I'm pretty unhappy about it. That iPhone3,1_4.1_8B117_Restore.ipsw file is sitting on my desktop but not doing much. I click to open it with iTunes but it's still not showing me that I can restore my iPhone from the June 2011 back up, just from the August 2010 back up.

Anyone have this problem? Apple won't help me unless I pay $69.99. I bought this iPhone back in October so I still have hardware support but they won't help me over the phone. THANKS APPLE, SO KIND OF YOU!

The IPSW file is just the bare firmware file itself, nothing to do with your backup.

Although it sounds like you also trashed your backup.

No there was only two things in my trash, two photos which I could delete. Nothing to do with the back up.
