Hi guys,

1rst post and it's a complaint. This no sound thing and solutions are ridiculous. I had the same problem 5 times in the last week. 1rst I restored the phone and payed extra careful to the apps I installed. It happened again. 2nd time, again a restore, even less apps installed. Again no sound. Again a restore. The restores worked every time for me but is a pain in the ... Finally it happened again this morning when I had time just for a restore and a Ziphone unlock before I went to work. All was fine until I came home. I had no apps installed and out of nowhere, NO SOUND again. From that I can definitely say it is NOT app related. Then the phone rang (no sound just a caller id pic), I picked up the phone and it worked fine. I heard the caller, he could hear me. Afterwords the iphone had sound again!!!
What on earth is going on?????? Has apple even heard of this issue???

Hey all.

first post here, and as the person above me, also a complaining one.

same exact problem as above, no sound what so ever. happens randomly

is there a fix or a report for this sort of a bug??

hey everyone, this is my first post in this thread. i have a problem where people im talking to over the phone cant hear me unless i use the headphones. ive tried the headphone plug/unplug without success and i reset all settings, no luck. any ideas? thanks in advance.

ive had it for a week exactly, i got it last tuesday. yea as far as i know it has been. i didnt think to make a call and see if it worked because i just assumed it would. my bad i guess. otb? im still a bit of a noob, sorry

First post here. I've had this problem twice now and this solution always worked for me.

Note: I tired most of the solutions on web I could find even the plug/unplug thing to the point that I almost restored my iPhone through iTunes. No other solution worked.

It's Pretty simple. Go to Settings -> General -> Reset and choose Reset All Settings. It will reset all your settings to its original state and NO HARM is done to your contacts, calendars, photos or any other data on the phone.

Thanks you very much..... ur solution solved my problem

its been a long time... sometimes people just need to read first before starting to panic. I'm glad I could help :)

It's all about fluff

I had the same problem and it was resolved very very easily after three days without being able to make or receive calls because of no sound.

I simply took the end of a safety pin and carefully poked about in the headphone socket, pulling out a considerable amount of fluff in the process that had obviously accumulated from being in my jeans' pocket day after day.

Once the fluff was out (it looks a bit like the stuff you find in your bellybutton!), the problem was solved.

Et voila

Hope this helps someone else!

Hey guys i had the no sound problem today.. tried all the things that were listed... Blew in the headphone jack, cleaned it out, plugged the head phones in out... reset all settings and nothing worked.. then i read a comment about corrupted sound files and remembered that i installed volume boost or w.e its called about a week ago.. so i uninstaller and everything works!

the absolute FIRST pat of troubleshooting a problem is to ask yourself what has changed on the device. In several peoples case they had uninstalled an application then it stopped working. To me that would be the FIRST sign of where i need to look for answers.

yea the thing was i installed that over a week ago so i didnt even think to connect the dots.. this site really helped thanks.

No ring

I got the new iPhone 3Gs this weekend and by Monday I had managed to do "something" so that I wasn't getting keyboard clicks, nor would it ring. I could hear music through the external speakers, so it wasn't the headphone jack or dust. Resetting it didn't help. It turned out to be the tiny little toggle switch on the top, left side of the phone over the volume buttons. If you're having this problem, have a look and see if it was pushed down accidentally.

iphone - no sound

Hey, i have tried almost all of the above and my phone will not ring, ipod doesnt make a sound, alarm doesnt make a sound?? Can anyone please help, so frustrating..

Faulty earphone jack??

Hi Guys, this is my first post so a big hello to everyone, im very new to iphones so still getting used to the general stuff, ive read with interest the probs on here with sound etc but i have a slight twist on the norm as i get perfect sound from the iphone speakers but only when i have the headphones plugged in, if i move the jack slightly outwards it transfers to the headphones, the phone will produce sound when sampling ringtones but alas it is silent when the phone is called. Now ive just got this unit back fom an iphone repairer ( not apple as the phone is jailbroken and was purchased from ebay , 2g 8gb) where it had a new mute switch fitted and a new battery, but opened it up on its return to day and whilst the mute button works and the battery is fantastic i used the ipod today and found no sound . The repairer is closed all weekend so cant do much til monday but would i be correct in assuming that its been wired up wrong in respect of the mute switch which i am lead to believe is connected to the volume rocker and phone jack etc.
Any thoughts be be appreciated.

Regards

Michael

iphone 3gs no sound

All,

I've read most of all of the previous posts to this forum dated back to 2007. I'll be the first in 2010 to post a new response and possibly new unsolved issue. I have a 3gs iphone, jailbroken, 3.1.2 firmware.

The phone was dropped on corner and glass cracked. 2 weeks later, "headphone jack issue" sound would cut out randomly and during phone calls sound and mic would stop working abruptly. Plugging and unplugging worked for about 2 tries, and only for about 15 seconds. Blowing in it failed. Q-Tips failed. I eventually replaced the glass and entire headphone jack cable assembly myself.

Although I broke the LCD in the process. (learning curve) The headphone jack did not resolve problem. I know the jack works now because iphone recognizes when a head phone is plugged and unplugged.

I've reset all settings. Restored an entirely new 3.1.2 pwanged created firmware.

still no luck. I'm at a last resort here with this iphone and was curious if anyone has any other suggestion toward my problem.

Hey guys, please someone help. My iPhone won't make any sound what so ever. If I watch movies, no sound. Listen to songs on iPod, no sound. YouTube videos, no sound. Everything that makes sound, doesn't make sound. The only time sound works is when I plug in my headphones. Please someone help me:(. I'm getting so frustrated with this. I've tried everything, plugging and unplugging headphones. Turning on and off. Gone to sound settings. Checked if it's not on silent and turned volume right up. Nothing works. Please I need help. All the apps are so boring without sound. What should I do??? I would be extremely grateful if someone could resolve this problem.

I'm feeling pretty stupid right now, but after I've read some posts on this thread I noticed that my iPhone was on silent (the little switch on the left side at the top). That's definitely one of the first things to check!

Since I'm such a nice guy, I created an account on here just so I can create this one post.

OK. So I also had the no sound problem on my iPhone. Things I tried to resolve in order below. The last one fixed my issue. Note that when I pressed my volume buttons on the side of the iphone, it would say (Volume Headset). Basically it thought I had a headset plugged in even tho I did not.

IF YOU HAVE NO SOUND ON YOUR IPHONE I SUGGEST YOU TRY THE BELOW

My phone is a 3GS and I have only used a headset on my phone a few times ever.

1. Turn the volume all the way up (Didn't work)
2. Flip the mute switch on the side of the phone back and forth to ensure it was not broken or on mute. (Didn't work)
3. Restrt my IPhone using the standard way (Didn't work)
4. Restarted my phone by holding down the power and the home button (hard reset) (Didn't work)
5. Did the Settings -> General -> Reset and choose Reset All Settings. (did not work and you may not want to do this if you have a jailbroken phone. It will wipe out your settings so if you use winterboard or categories etc. you will need to reconfigure these apps)
6.Plugged in a headset to see of sound worked with the headset (sound was working fine with the headset)
7. Pluged in and removed the headset 20 times (Didn't work_
8. tapped the side of my phone with the headphone jack on the carpet (Not too hard) (Didnt' work)

9. and the fix to the no sound was!!!.....

I blew in the headphone jack a bunch of times and that fixed it. To be honest i didn't think that was going to do anything at all which is one of the reasons it was last on my list. Thanks to the guy that posted this fix! :)

If this did not work I was going to wipe my phone and start over. and if that didn't work, it was going to be a trip to apple to have them repair it.

If you blow in the jack and it does not fix it keep trying and blow as hard as you can. It took me 3 blows to get it fixed. And yes I felt super silly blowing into my phone!!

**********EDIT*****************
So I decided that even though my phone was working perfectly now I'd blow in it agian. Well now I have the problem again. I have been blowing until im blue in the face and can't get it working agian. I'm going to go out and buy a can of compressed air to blow out the jack. Hopefully that fixes it. I read on some other place that this will probably work

**********EDIT2*****************
After some more blowing, it is working again. Today is a super humid day here. I'm wondering if it is just so humid that it is making the phone think there is a headset plugged in since water is conductive. Maybe the blowing just dries it out. I dunno. I'm still going to try the compressed can of air since I'm still afraid that this is going to come back again and maybe there is some crap stuck in there like pocket lint.
