What does this mean please and how do I fix?

It means that the iCloud backup that is supposed to run for this phone hasn’t been able to complete successfully.

It will attempt to backup the device with the conditions mentioned in the screenshot you provided. Maybe those haven’t been met. Try to manually back up to see if it helps. Check your iCloud storage too.

Sorry I tried a manual backup and it says this:

The last backup could not be completed because iCloud contains a backup from a newer iOS version.

What does that mean and how do I fix please ?

What iOS version do you have on your device now? Did you at some point have a newer (beta) version on it?

Delete your current iCloud backup and make a new one, as long as you have everything you need from the iCloud backup such as photos.
