iPhone: Not enough storage space to trim video

I tried to trim video on my iPhone, but it said, "Not enough storage space to trim video." I don't understand - the whole point of trimming the video (at least for me) is to reclaim wasted space.

Trimming videos on iOS work by first copying the video, removing the extra unselected video, then optionally deleting the source video file.
