iphone on T-Mobile - set forced roaming?

Sorry, searched but did not find...

An unlocked 8gb 2nd Gen iphone will run fine on T-Mobile, but there are places where a small, local carrier (Unicel) has a far stronger signal than TMO.

I have done it on my Blackberry and other phones, how do I choose to have the iphone use Unicel rather than TMO? Can you force roaming on the iphone???
