So I need a new phone soon, and I am tossing and turning between getting a Blackberry or buying an iPhone. Can anyone shed some more light on which phone to choose? I find there are pros and cons for both devices and I'm sitting on the fence. Thanks!

Never used a BB but I guess it really depends on what you like. If you want your music/video's and phone in one device iphone is your pick. If you want games and other apps, iPhone is your pick. If you want the bb message and a little light that tells you when you have a message, BB is your pick. I think the shortcomings the iPhone had when it first came out related to other "smart phones" like BB have been pretty much resolved. I of course own an i and am a bit biased. You need to go get hands on with both and see which one YOU like best. IMHO for form and function iPhone can't be beat.

I think that if you hit up an AT&T store and play around with both an iPhone and a BlackBerry for at least 10 minutes each, it'll be a lot easier to decide.

Yeah, I think it totally depends on what you need of your phone.

That said, You should get an iPhone. Why? Because, that's why. You're on an iPhone forum, so what other answer should you expect?? :D

It's really up to you. If you can try the phones out a little bit in the store do that. That's what I do when I need a new phone. Personally, I don't like the interface of the Blackberry. That's just my opinion though!

If tethering is at all important to you that might help make up your mind.

    - Get this if you are getting a data plan.
    - Better multimedia/games/web browser.

    - Get this if you are going to text alot.
    - LED Indicator is super awesome.

To me, those are the main points. Actually, the biggest question is how much are you going to text?

    ALOT - Blackberry
    Decent Amount - Blackberry
    Rarely to Never - iPhone

I own both and it's the keyboard that usually brings me back to my Blackberry as I hate the iPhone virtual KB with a passion.

That being said though, I still use it every now and then...like right now actually.

A lot of people actually like the iPhone's keyboard better than the BB's.

Yeah, having used both keyboards I prefer the iPhone's to the BB keyboard.

Though I have never used a bb keyboard I can tell by looking at it I would have a hard time using it to type. iPhone's keyboard is great for texting.... Not sure why you hate it so much.

    +1 for iphone..

blackberry is awesome too...i heard storm 2 is coming in a few months...maybe you could look into that...it has more features and most importantly wifi which the earlier storm didn't have(wtf i know:eek:)...don't if it would come on att or verizon...

if you need something now then go for iphone...its screen is brilliant...though you may have difficulty in typing, you'll soon get used to it...cheers

Asking this question in a Apple community, more specifically a iPhone forum... so right there all of the answers are going to be biased :p

To get the correct answer, you should ask the BB forum what they think you should get. Than divide by 2.

Thanks for the posts everyone. I did post this question on a bb forum, but the iphone just gets bashed on bb forums. Everyone thinks its a toy and not "business" worthy. So I thought I would ask this question on an iPhone forum to balance out the opinions because like I said it's almost a tie between these devices.

I text alot, but on the other hand I browse the internet alot. I prefer a physical keyboard yet the virtual keyboard is not that bad and takes very little physical effort thumb wise to type (I own 1g iPod Touch).

Blackberry notifications are great, and highly customizable. BBs sip data, via bb data servers.

BB has a stale OS, iPhone has more friendly OS. So I'm just having a hard time choosing.

Both devices excel in different areas but I'm caught in between the two. So I need a public forum so I can make a decision based on people's experiences.

honestly, it depends on which blackberry you are getting. you really cant compare blackberries to the iphone, unless you are talking about the storm and upcoming storm 2, since they are touchscreen blackberry devices.

if you need a solid messaging (text, email, IM) device, then blackberry is the way to go. however, if you plan on using the web a lot, the blackberry internet browser just plain sucks compared to safari. i dont care if its using edge, 3g, evdo, or wifi - its absolute garbage compared to safari. hell i would rather use pocket internet explorer/opera mini then that. dont forget that the blackberry o/s is very old and aging - its in dire need of redesign

if you need a much more media capable/rich device, then the iphone is the way to go. so many more apps to choose from, jailbroken or not. some people hate it because of the lack of a physical keyboard, some dont.

    I'm thinking

ask on a iphone forum most will say iphone. now go on a BB forum and ask there too. Oh shock they say BB. go to the store play with the phones. Also might help if you stated what features are important too you! but in the end you are the one that will pay the phone bill.

iPhone has hands down the best internet browsing.
Blackberry has hands down the best messaging (save for a lack of threaded messaging :/)

I like the iPhone, just with there was multitasking. That's one thing I loved about the Bold. It was just so damn reliable in maintaining a connection to the net.

I've tried several IM apps for the iPhone...they are all hindered by the lack of multitasking.

    Blackberry hands down!
It's the best phone since slice bread and It's great if you text alot.
The iPhone is just fancy technology for advanced users.
    So I say Blackberry FTW.

I own an iPhone 3gs. . . What DO YOU THINK my answer would be?

I've been going through this same debate lately. I've had an iPhone since the first one and a 3GS since launch day. I recently became fed up with network problems I was having with the iPhone and after several calls with AT&T they offered me the opportunity to get another fully subsidized phone. Good on you, AT&T!

So, I went to Best Buy and picked up a curve a couple weeks ago. I have to say it's a great piece of hardware. I've fallen in love with it's form-factor, especially the keyboard. I think the iPhones touch keyboard is great, best around, but it pales in comparison to a real keyboard. I love the full integration of apps, BB & 3rd-party, into the OS. Full-multitasking is a joy.

But, the BB OS has plenty of shortcomings. It is very text oriented and feels kind of old. It's hard for it to compete with the iPhone's UI. Web browsing is much better on the iPhone, as is email in many ways, multi-media, the availability of apps.

I used the BB for a couple weeks and just switched back to the 3GS. I had both working for awhile by switching sims but 3.1.2 seems to have killled that for me. I really wish I could use both. The Curve blows away the iPhone in text input. I write a ton of emails on my phone and the Curve is so much better for text. One-handed typing is a nightmare on the iPhone and a dream on the BB. The iPhone IMO manages contacts and calendars much better than the BB. You can manage separate groups on the iPhone much better. The BB is always trying to integrate them. This was a big reason the iPhone is winning.

For me, it's been a tough decision, one I'm still making, but I think I will end up with the iPhone. I guess I want the complete package. If email and messaging are your main uses for your smartphone, I'd have a hard time not recommending the Blackberry over the iPhone.

I am starting to get bored with the iPhone too. Kind of ready for a change. I just haven't found anything compelling enough to get me to switch and stay.

how is posting here exactly going to balance anything out? you also don't indicate what you're even looking for in a phone. in all honesty, since you even have to ask (and thus i doubt you need it for business), just get an iphone to play crappy 99 cent games on.

long time bb user here. switched to 3gs 2weeks ago

if it wasn't for lack of browsing compatibility on bb, I would never have swtiched from vzw to inferior att network.

after using 3gs I like it alot and I don't think i'll be returning it. main reason being the whole-lotta apps on iphone.

if you txt alot, bb would be a better option. i had tour and its keyboard is good. curve has best keyboard imo

I'm going to watch carefully for storm2 reviews and decide if i wanna jump back to vzw.

You should test both devices for a week or so. I've had a lot of phones, and I like the iPhone most. Just because it feels much more natural and I like the UI much more. The iPhone is just easy to use without needing a user manual.

But I can't decide for you, you really should use both devices for a week or so. Compare the cons and pros. I really think it's a big advance that the iPhone has a big screen on which I can watch movies and TV shows like on the bus or when you go on holiday.

I think the iPhone is really nice just because it's easy-to-use and nice UI. As you can see, I'm more "iPhone"-like but again: you should use both devices for like a week or so.

The first week the blackberry and the second week the iPhone. Try to borrow it from a friend or something like that.
