Have previous betas always expired so quickly?

"iPhone OS 3.1 beta 2 will expire Tuesday, July 28 at 12:00 am"

Um, that's like 6 hours from now on the east coast.

Edited to add: You're right, it is 6 hours. I need a vacation!

Sweet. I'll install it on my first gen iPhone when I get home. I can't wait to see if they tweaked any of the graphics.

Right.. what's new here?

Since when do Apple release these on a Monday?

I think it is because they don't want to risk developers getting locked out of their iPhone due to the beta 2 expiring tomorrow.

New Feature in iPhone OS 3.1: Failover support for HTTP live streaming
New Enhancements to Core Audio in iPhone OS 3.1 (Beta 3)
New Feature in iPhone OS 3.1: Instruments over Wi-Fi
New Feature in iPhone OS 3.1 with Snow Leopard: VM Tracker

What's a VM tracker?

Then why have the expiration so close?

To push themselves to release a new build or to be on schedule? That's what I'm thinking.

That makes it sound as if the development team are rather unmotivated that they need something like that do make things work

Hey, if it works, why fix it.

The thing is developers are often very hard to motivate. Underpaid, understaffed, and overworked is a common theme you hear about developers anywhere.

Some companies actually give bonuses to devs if they release on time or extra bonus of ahead of schedule.
