I think that the reason that Cut & Paste was missing from the iphone, is that Apple designed the the iPhone to be an EasyPhone and did not really anticipate that the public REALLY wanted an advanced SmartPhone and internet device that would be more like an ultra portable computer.

Look at the software, easy to use but not full featured.

Apple chose to do away with drop down menus that are a staple of almost all computers and smart phones, and dumbed the software down just to a few features. It makes it easy for developers to create fart-ware but more complex software has been really lacking.

When I moved from my Palm Treo I really missed all of the more professional features that allowed me to easily move files back and forth to my desktop and work on them with my external bluetooth keyboard on the go.

While the iPHone has many more advanced aesthetic interface elements, it is still lacking in the features that made the Palm Treo a real work horse.

I am really looking forward to iPhone 4.0...

bug found in 3.0 and still present in 3.1

I have 3 sets of contacts in my groups: "On My Iphone", "MobileMe", "Exchange"
then there is "All Contacts". When I select "All Contacts", I get duplicate display of each contact and some showing double first name; for example a contact named "John" will display: "John" and a second display will show "John John" right below it. I sent this info to Apple, they say that they are aware of it. I was hoping they fix it with 3.1 but no such luck, at least not with the beta.

So, those of you defending Apple and claiming they do not react to market forces. C&P was withheld for 2 years because...?

The bottom line here is that not having C&P for two years is indefensible. It was a ridiculous omission that can only be explained by incompetence or avarice.

I can't wait to find out how I'll get screwed to enable tethering.

I love Apple, been using their products since the Apple II Plus, but I think we can all agree they are not perfect.

exactly, to me there is no justifiable reason to withhold copy and paste and those who are trying to come up with reasons are just grasping at straws. Thats not to say that apple didn't get a lot of things right, its just this is an obvious black eye any way you slice it.

Just give me an app for profiles to change settings

It would be great if there were an app or feature that you could set user profiles to turn on and off various features, i.e. profile home would turn on wifi, turn off 3G, turn off GPS. Profile 2 you could set to turn off wifi, turn on 3G turn on GPS, ect. with just one touch.

And please improve the ringtone volume. It's so soft that if i'm not in the same room as my phone I can't hear it.

Ok, the % is a great feature, but also very depressing. By this i mean you really start to understand how fast it drains when you have a true %. I think it would be nice to have only once you get below 10%.

It seems to me that the % indicator actually drains the battery faster. I tried one day with it on and the next with it off, and my battery life has been noticeably worse with it on.

3.1 problem

is anyone else having the problem of upgrading to 3.1 on the 3gs? i did it twice and it bricked my phone.

I totaly agree on both counts with you, wish i could develop it i'm sure there's a market for it.

High on my list would be the ability to completely turn OFF:
• copy/paste interface - never wanted it, now it just gets in the way;
• landscape keyboard / landscape rotation in general for most apps - never wanted it, now it just annoys me no end;
• spotlight page - I can see it could be useful, but it gets in the way of my swiping back to the first screen where I leave it on locking, and it's laggy to load.

That, and integrate voice memos into notes to save a space; and compass into maps for those with 3GSs for that matter. Then we'll be really getting somewhere (or in many cases getting back to where we were :)).

They allowed us to turn off the extra SMS notifications in 3.0, so maybe these will have to wait until 4.0, but sooner would be nice.

Who marks this type of thing negative? Apple/iPhone haters?

The iPhone just keeps getting better and better!

Me! Beacuse I am a true iPhone enthusiast and 3.0 is for me the worst update ever - and I mean in the last 20 years I am using Apple products... I am not joking! It's not bad by options and new features, but by lousy QA and wi-fi and other problems. A number of iPhones has been rendered useless by 3.0 update (almost 7% in some pools on Mac forums) and I am among those unlucky users. It was almost a perfect device with 2.2.1 and now I must wait for my third iPhone... (in Europe you don't get a new one at Genius Bar, you have to wait for up to 4 weeks for a replacement).

So, I am not excited by any new iPhone OS release anymore, I just want that my iPhone work! So Apple - no fancy features, just make it operational and reliable please!

The % indicator has no effect on the battery life. I have used it both ways timed and there is no difference at all in the drain. I think the percentage just makes you more aware of the drainage than without it on.

Are you running out of spaces or something?

I have the same problem with the app names labeling with the wrong name. I have good reception where I live, but I've noticed some problems when I'm out and about.
Apps with incorrect icons and LOUSY reception on 3GS compared to my 3G in the identical location is a problem for me as well. And what is it with the dropped calls. SHEESH! I always thought it was my 3G. I thought with the new 3GS the problem would be solved. It's just as bad, if not worse. You get tired of apologizing for your phone. You become the guy with the phone that stops working all the time.
As far as a phone goes, it is the worst performing phone I've ever had. But with all the other stuff it does, I find it impossible to give up.
There has to be some technical problem with AT&T and the iPhone. It can't be just the phone.
I'm done complaining now. Any of the features discussed in this thread would be great. Let's hope they happen soon.

Far from it, but I'm sure some people are, and I just find the division unnecessary - IMO it is mainly done so that there is a visible difference between 2.2.1 and 3.0 and between the 3G and 3GS, or at least so people see up front what has been added. That one is lower on my list though anyway :).

Oh and I swipe back out of habit, might have to try getting into pressing home instead.

I think the iPhone does have a higher rate than most phones, but i also get them on my BB. Thank AT&T, the worlds largest network and the most dropped calls

Is this a new feature in this update? I've never noticed it before, I have one of those in my car, and when I plug it in that pops up. It's giving fairly detailed information about the accessory now, which I didn't think about.

Can anyone verify if 3.1 addresses some bluetooth compatibility issues with wireless headphones such as the Sony Ericsson HBH-IS800?

I guess no one else has experienced any problem with the GPS function, associated either with the 3GS or with 3.0?
