Reading on the iPhone is comfortable enough IMO if you set a large font. In any case it makes total sense to let people with iPads continue their books on the go.

Bastards. It's pretty ****** that Apple completely copied (and, admittedly, slightly improved) the Classics interface, without giving them any credit or paying for it.

They should have done what they did with Cover Flow and just purchased the app and intellectual property. I'm sure the devs would have accepted $100k, less than a drop in the bucket for Apple.

Think about it. What better way is there to organize virtual books than on a virtual book shelf. This naturally comes to mind.

Plus, the organization of both is different. Classics comes with a set of books, while individual ebooks must be purchased for iBooks.

Side note: Now there will be no need for me to purchase an iPad. HD and iBooks are the only two reasons I'd purchase it.

Well, figured iBooks for iPhone/Touch was mostly a matter of time.

Reading on a small screen probably isn't optimal, but it will be nice to at least have the option. Will be interesting to try. If iBooks ever makes it here :p

I don't think many people would use the phone as their primary reading device, but this could be very useful when you have a few minutes to kill and you don't a have an iPad or laptop with you.

Whatever. Stocks, Compass, and Voice Memos have a new friend now.

Hey, I actually use Voice Memos! :)

But I concur those mentioning Stanza (which I'm a fan of) and the other existing e-book readers. Sort of sucks for them, particularly Classics. I remember reading a blog entry by the guy who actually designed the interface. I wonder how he feels about this.

I don't know why you guys are so against this, I think it's great. My first choice would obviously be to read on the iPad, but for times when my iPad isn't with me or my girlfriend steals it (which is often), it'll be a nice option. The wireless syncing makes it super convenient.

Sweet, I read on my iPhone already using Amazon but tbh I'd prefer to use Apple's offering ;)

Corporate cheapskates!

I'm still upset about Apple simply ripping off Delicious Library's theme without giving credit for it, paying for it or even discussing ANYTHING about it before the keynote back a few months ago.

If Delicious Library will make an iPhone app, it will be ironic to see people blaming them for stealing from Apple. :(

If you want a decent eBook reader, just go and get GoodReader -- it's the best as far as I am concerned. In fact, I have already purchased the iPad version even though I won't get mine before the end of April.

Disclaimer: I am NOT in any way connected to the developers of GoodReader.

I also don't understand why people's comments are so negative. I don't have an iPad, and don't know how soon I'll get one. I've read books before on iPhone (Kindle) and thought the experience was fine. So Apple coming in with their own application seems ideal to me, especially since you can sync books between the iPhone and iPad.

If you have both, you could do your primary reading on your iPad, but in a pinch read on the iPhone. If you don't have an iPad and don't think the screen's big enough on the iPhone, then no need to use the app. Personally, I know I will definitely be looking forward to it on my iPhone.

Reading books on an iPhone? It's a joke, right?
Audio is the only realistic option if you're anti-paper and don't want a Kindle/iPad.

Any chance the app will 'read' it to you while you are driving, if you want it to?

cramped. I never thought I needed glasses until I started trying to read on that thing.
I have 77 year old eyes and have no problem reading books on the iPod. I just increase the size of the print. That's a "No Brainer"! It is easy to hold in any position because of its size and light weight, and it fits in my pocket. Works great while in waiting rooms, standing in lines etc.:)

Whatever. Stocks, Compass, and Voice Memos have a new friend now.

I have actually used these:eek:. I emailed a voice memo to a friend of mine and he said it freaked him out to hear my voice coming through his iMac:D

I have no use for iBooks on my iPhone:(. The print is way too small for extended reading and enlarging the print and scrolling around is a pain. This is a great app on the iPad.

Can you download iBooks for the 4.0 beta?

Just trying to figure out if I can download the iBooks app for iPhone 4.0 beta?
