I bought an iphone 8 on release day last year using the iphone payments finance option (0% interest over 20 months - not the iphone upgrade programme).
Anyway I now want to upgrade to the new 6.1" iphone when it is released and would like to pay off my exiting phone first. Has anybody who is in the UK done this shed some light on the process? I am wondering if the finance company (Barclays bank I believe) will charge an early repayment fee?

Have a look in the Apple Store App, it may tell you in the Account section.

I don't have any real knowledge about how that works, but if there is an early repayment fee that is insane. Shouldn't be charged extra for giving them the money early.

Hi, I was in the same situation last year with my iPhone 7. All I did was call up their customer service team and request to pay it off early.

The process was smooth and I had no issues with it personally.

Yes you can. Go to the iPhone Upgrade Program page and go to 'Check My Status'. You'll be asked to sign in with your Apple ID. It will then confirm if you can upgrade and how much you need to pay in order to do so.

I am not on the upgrade program though, I bought it using iphone payments. Looks like I need to call Barclays. I will update here once I have done it.

Call Barclays and ask for the early settlement figure - there won’t be a penalty for paying off early.

I'd assume it's just like using Barclays Partner Finance for other purchases - I paid off my MacBook Pro early this week, just called them up and it prompts you to ask for a settlement figure if you want one, then you just go through the automated payment system.
