Iphone photos lost moving to icloud

I was running out of space on my Iphone6s, so I purchased the 200gig icloud. At the time I had 400mb left on my iphone6. I then set it to optimize photos on my phone using the cloud as a backup. Somehow tons of my photos are gone from my phone and not on the icloud. My phone now shows 12gb free and the icloud only using 1gb. Where did my 11gb of photos go?? Any advice is appreciated.

I am also taking screenshots and no photos showing up. So I lost 11 gigs of photos and now I can't take screenshots? Glad I paid for upgraded Icloud!
