My iPhone 3G (which is a replacement for one whose "lock" button stopped working a couple of weeks ago) seems to be possessed. That's really the best description I can think of.

All by itself it will change songs in the iPod, change screens from the album art screen, back to the list of songs, and then pick a different song. It will also inexorably zoom out in Google Maps, to the point where I'm fighting with it to let me zoom in.

There's no water damage, I haven't dropped it (always keep it in its iSkin case)...so I'm really at a loss here. It's only about two weeks old!

    Things that haven't fixed it:

-Rebooting the phone (tried this multiple times)
-Restoring the software (tried this twice...it even happens when i haven't put any of my apps or data back on to it.)

The problem happens intermittently, and will go on for about 20 minutes at a time, at least once a day.

I've made a GB appointment today, because I was FINALLY able to get a video (usually it happens in the car or at work, but today it happened right after I woke up and had my camera close by). I put off taking this in to the store until I had some proof because I don't think anybody would believe me!

Here's the video [Kind of a bad quality version right now -- but an HD one should show up soon]:

Wow. All I can say is: don't worry about a thing. :)

In your post you say you always keep it in its case, and on the video it looks like its in the case. Have you seen this behavior when it is NOT in the case? Maybe the sides of the case are pressing against the edge of the screen, and its the case that's causing the strange behavior? Try taking off the case and see if every little thing will be alright?

    haha ;)

I made a GB appointment this morning and took it in. They replaced it without any issue. I showed the Genius the video I made, but he said they would have probably swapped it without the proof.

He did say he has never seen anything like that before though. He was very nice, and I was in an out within 10 minutes. :apple:

There must have been some other things wrong with that unit. My 3G service was ridiculously slow on it. Around 100 Kbps on speed tests. I checked right before the swap and still got that speed. With the new phone I am getting proper speeds (1.5 Mbps) and that was standing in the same spot of the Apple Store.
