Wow, I am impressed. Squeaky wheel gets the grease I suppose. Now, should I be happy for the $100 credit as a consumer, or unhappy as a shareholder...hmmm.

Not to bust your bubble but this was planned..

Anybody remember the last quarterly conference call where they said due to a "transition" profits would be lower for the Sept. Quarter? ;)

Lots of things can affect profit- not just $100 gift cards. Lowering the price of the phone $200 would affect profit, for example, if they decided to do such a crazy and radical price reduction (yeah right) :D

My goal is to take all 100 dollars of that store credit, and buy 100 bucks of iTunes gift cards at the Apple Store by my house.

100 bucks of free music? I really can't complain.

To agree with one of the first posts, this wasn't necessary, but it shows sheer professionalism. What a classy guy.

Finally, it's funny that this came out when it did. I spent about half an hour on the phone with 1800MYAPPLE and my town's Apple Store, the supervisors of both telling me that they are unable to do anything. I return to my computer, feeling defeated, and what do I see?

Oh glorious day.

[edit]
I bet one of the reasons Steve-o thinks this is feasible and affordable is that the new price drop (and ensuing buying spree) of iPhones will more than cover this seemingly massive amount of money (think about it, 100 bucks * 500,000 iPhone customers = 50,000,000 dollars)

I would take people more seriously if they didn't think Apple has high margins.

Compared to manufacturing companies, they don't. Compared to most software developers, they're low. It's only to computer manufacturers they MIGHT be considered high...except to survive, they pretty much have to pitch their margins higher.

I assuming you have some data to back this claim. Generally speaking, most people feel Apple has high margins. If you have something that refutes that, please share.

Maybe all the moaners can now shut up and I can read something else on this forum.

Talk about sombody wasting their time.....guess we know what your time is worth!

The voices were heard and a suitable response was given, yet there are still anti-refund moaners.

I hope that's incorrect. *looks at his 4GB iPhone*

Hopefully we'll have full details next week... Maybe they will upgrade our 4GB phones to an 8GB phone. Haha :D (Dreams on)

HAHA i wish !! I really hope that this refers to the people with 4GB since they did drop the price on that till they are sold out...

its more then i expected...
I thought we would nothing...
Im really impressed by apple now...

thank you

Overall, the move was needed and I commend Steve for doing it. I actually suggested in a post yesterday that Apple needed to do something to "Thank" the iPhone early adopters.

I stated the following in post yesterday:

Early adopters do take a risk when they decide to purchase a product as soon as it comes out. I think it would be nice for Apple to offer some sort of "Thank You" to these buyers, perhaps a discount of some sort ... accessories or even a "1 month free" concession to these early adopters.

You *should* feel bad.

The price drop was neither unusual, unprecedented, nor dissimilar from the way any one of a dozen other large phone/computer/gadget companies do business. You simply had no right to complain about it. Microsoft, Sony, Toshiba, Nokia, Motorolla have all done this exact same thing (or worse), in the exact same time frame. There is simply NO LOGICAL OR FACTUAL REASON why you should have got a refund, you were just being a baby about it.

The only reason Apple caved was the PR aspect and you have just taken a rather large amount of money out of the pocket of a company that did you no harm whatsoever. You are no better than those greedy ******s that are trying to extort money out of Apple over their batteries and you should definitely, positively, FEEL ASHAMED.

This is a lesson for Apple I guess about what happens when you are selling a product to the great unwashed masses out there instead of your base of supporters. It makes me miss the old days when Apple was a lot smaller and all the greedy, self-serving opportunists had never heard of OS-X.

The price of fame indeed. :(

pathetic snobbery. unwashed masses!

I suspect its unhappy people. They really wanted Apple to stick it to the early adopters for some reason they seem to get a great satisfaction from watching it all go down. I was more than prepared to live with my purchase at full price. Thankfully now I dont have to. Its great watching them eat crow, especially those that were on their high horses yesterday going out of their way to make people miserable.:D

$100

I just have to say that Apple is the best company in the world! I can't think of any other company ESPECIALLY ONE THAT SELLS CELL PHONES that would do something like this! Steve Jobs and Apple are quite amazing and as always I am honored to be a customer of theirs.

Anyone that is still whining, needs to go sit in a dark corner and cry because you have way bigger problems than a phone.

Sincerely,
The Mac Guy

Did anyone see this:

http://money.cnn.com/2007/09/06/technology/iphone_price/index.htm?cnn=yes

The article clearly states that this refund pertains only to the 8GB model. What about the 4GB?

I dont see anywhere in the article where it says ONLY 8GB model owners. There is no mention of whether the 4GB owners get a credit or not.

However, in Jobs' letter he clearly states:

"Therefore, we have decided to offer every iPhone customer who purchased an iPhone from either Apple or AT&T, and who is not receiving a rebate or any other consideration, a $100 store credit towards the purchase of any product at an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store. Details are still being worked out and will be posted on Apple's website next week. Stay tuned."

Last time I checked my 4GB model was still an iPhone, and I bought it at the Apple Store.

Seems like NO ONE remembers that when Aperature had a price drop Apple did the exact same thing.

I do as i got it :) I even referenced this in my e-mail to SJ.

I accept gratefully. I am happy both for myself and also for Apple where I have a lot of investment. This is the right thing to do and is a total win win.

That iPod Touch just came in to range.

Thank you Steve.

So sad...

I am not sad that they are offering a store credit. I do not fault anyone who receives either this credit or the $200 14-day credit. What I find offensive are the many vociferous iPhone purchasers who call themselves "loyal" yet responded so bitterly to the price drop. Asking for or simply stating your desire for a refund would have been enough to get this. By speaking so viscously, you have done more harm than necessary and therefore do not deserve to call yourselves loyal. For all of those who remained calm and objective, kudos and enjoy your credit. For all the others, I guess you must now be upset that you can't use your credit at dell.com:mad:

I have received hundreds of emails from iPhone customers... After reading every one of these emails, I have some observations and conclusions.
Holy Crap! He read hundreds of emails?! This is why, people, that we love Apple. They actually care and listen to their customers.

Overseas early adopters

We gave our CEO (who happens to be an Apple lover) dollars to buy iPhones for myself and the art director on our mag here in the UK. There are now four of the devices in the company. I'm just praying that Apple doesn't say you have to go into a US store to get the $100.

Be nice if you could just enter your serial number on the site and get a virtual voucher emailed to you or iTunes account charged up - otherwise we might have to wait until our CEO is back in New York on another business trip...ouchh

But as iPodtouch is going to retail in the UK at £250 we've got a good deal anyway. Hey, it was still a great deal at £300/$600.

I've been in love with Apple for 20 years and many more to come... good on you mr jobs
