iPhone price next year?

$999 and $699 this year for X and 8 respectively.

What will happen next year? Will there always be these two pricepoints?
Is the 8 doomed to be repeated in form for infinity?
Will the X be reduced to $699 next year?

Just wondering because all this talk about "all phones will have face unlock next year" makes me wonder if they're keeping the 8 around (in design, as a new 8s or something). And if they ARE keeping the 8/8s around, will we always have to pay $999 for an all screen iPhone?

Appreciate your thoughts.

(This isn't Tim Cook, by the way. No way. Not me. Just wondering. Thank you, customers. I mean, valued Macrumors feedback.. I mean... people. Nope, not Tim Cook here.)

Well if rumors are true and we get an X and an “X Plus” next year I can’t imagine what the Plus will cost. $1099 for the plus 64gb?

Or possibly $899 for the new X and $999 for the plus? That may be wishful thinking.

Part of me believes 128 GB will be offered next year as well. So the pricing might vary with the 64GB, 128 GB and 256 GB. If anything, Apple may drop the 64 Gb variant. But the rumored 6.4 OLED. Keep will likely start around $1,100.00

Just a guess but I think both the 7 & 8 series will stick around with price reductions for those that really want to stick with TouchID and there will be a new XI and XI Plus (what are they going to call it?) to replace the X. Possibility that the XI will start at $899 and XI Plus at $999 but I could see it easily being $999 and $1099 too.
The SE will probably be updated in the spring to round out the lineup.

Hoping for 128gb option next year but I won’t be shocked if it’s just 64/256 again for another year
 
Well the X format will not decrease in price, that's a promise.. This years X is a precedent setting price point.

But I and many (maybe) prefer not to spend $999 on a cellphone, and I'm wondering what the ideas out there would be for the $699 price point for me and others.

What is going to happen? Only year old 8's for $599, and the $999 X2?

And the SE of course, because they'll never update that thing and continue to sell it until it's $50 in 3 years. :rolleyes:

I expect Apple will keep the 8 around a few years by adding minor speed bumps ... I don't see them updating or replacing it beyond that. I think the X is how they want to move forward. Anyway just my thoughts on the matter.

Well the better offering a plus size or they will be losing business.

When I said the 8 I meant the whole line including the plus. I apologize I should have been more clear.

Well the X+ will be more but i think that is the only model price to go up...
 
My early guess is that we'll see an iPhone 9 which will be another speed bump to the original 6. That will be the end of the road for the LED iPhones. Apple will keep the 7, 8 and 9 handing around for a couple years but no updates. OLED is the future for Apple.

The X I'm not sure if it will get budgeted or axed just because there's already too many friggin models. I'm going to say axed. It's successor will have a brand new non-numbered name similar to the treatment the iPads got. It doesn't make sense to have an X2 since it's ten not ex. The whole numbering thing get's ridiculous after awhile. Good to make 10 the jump off point.

There will be two versions the current 5.8 model and a plus model. Both will have Apple Pencil capability. The 5.8 model will stay at $999/1149 and the plus model will be $1150/1299. RAM config will stay the same unless X sales prove to be disappointing. Then they'll get a $100 haircut.

Probably the same.

Although they could reintroduce the 128GB tier and price the 64GB at say $920 and then 128GB at $999.

I guess what Apple will do is reduce the 2017 X price and then sell the X 2018 at the current pricing.
 
- I don't really see Apple reducing the price of the "top tier" iPhone. iPhone pricing has only gone up at the high end.

- I posted this earlier in a seperate thread, but I really don't know how Apple will approach the "Tier 2" iPhone going forward. All signs indicate that interest in the iPhone 8 has been less than Apple expected. We are now hearing that Apple will introduce Face ID all across the line. Will there be a Face ID LED iPhone? Will Apple basically eliminate all of the lower cost iphones and go to a iPhone X only line? No one really knows.

I'm thinking 9+ will still be LED to keep the iPhone to 9 models consistent. X is the demarcation line in old and "future" (OLED). Guessing there will be a + sized X model next year but it won't be called either X+ or XI+. The will find a new name for iPhones like they did iPad 4 -> iPad Air -> iPad Pro (9.7").

Of course with 8/8+ sales seemingly slow maybe there won't be a 9 next year. Maybe 8 will be the end of the line for the LEDs.
