I'm thinking 9+ will still be LED to keep the iPhone to 9 models consistent. X is the demarcation line in old and "future" (OLED). Guessing there will be a + sized X model next year but it won't be called either X+ or XI+. The will find a new name for iPhones like they did iPad 4 -> iPad Air -> iPad Pro (9.7").

Time will tell.

Watching people complain about the price was a hoot this year.

I hope they keep the prices the same next year.

Or what will probably happen is the X next year will be what the the 8/Plus are today and the X Plus will be what the X is today.

Yep lots of complaints over the notch and do not forget that horrible red dot on the Apple watch. It will all pass and people will love their new hardware.

Well the X format will not decrease in price, that's a promise.. This years X is a precedent setting price point.
I'm unsure if I agree with this. Many people are willing to pay the higher price for the iPhone X as it's the anniversary edition of the iPhone. Some won't care about that but are willing to pay the higher price for the new design. Next year it won't be new and I would think not as many people would be willing to pay the higher price for the next version (if there is one).

While I believe this is inevitably true, it does not mean that apple's design choices are not questionable. The notch is a horrible design choice that we must unfortunately embrace.

I expect Apple will keep the 8 around a few years by adding minor speed bumps ... I don't see them updating or replacing it beyond that. I think the X is how they want to move forward. Anyway just my thoughts on the matter.
Right, exactly: the X is the future, but does that mean that $999 is the future of cellphone purchasing? Could they keep the 8 design around in the future and reduce the price dramatically like they did with the SE design (Sep 2012 to date 2017)?

I wonder if they'll hide the notch in the future and call it a new design. Orrrrr, embrace the notch forever...

Very few customers know the X is the "anniversary edition"

iPhone pricing and tiering is going to be an annual drama

I believe Apple set the standard of pricing: low tier $999 and $1,299 higher tier. The apple caremight be at $199.

I do think it's possible for them to keep the 8 design and reduce the price somewhat. Although I don't think it will hit the low prices of the SE, at least anytime soon. I am no analyst however I do think we are looking at $999 prices and up in the future. At $999 they really don't need to sell as many iPhones as in the past and with a saturated market they probably won't. What are your thoughts?

Unless the X flops, which I don't see happening, the notch is here to stay.

Just remember that we all have choices to make.

As an apple fan, I really don't. I'll accept the notch because for me, there is no better experience out there. Still does not mean the notch is a great design.

Perhaps, yeah, the saturation Makes sense. I'm planning on keeping my 7 for ~3 years, but I would keep it longer if I had to pay >$650 for a new phone. I don't buy new laptops every three years, so why a phone?

I hope they don't make $999 the new entry price for an iPhone. (Even two year old device would be $799 at the assumed -$100 depreciation)

It is rather sad if you think you do not have a choice.

I understand there is Android. I do not like Android. I would never purchase an Android phone. I love apple and their products. So although I know there are other choices, those choices are irrelevant as I won't consider them. So not sad at all as it's choice I am exorcising in the end.
