I think you guys might find that interesting.

I'm getting the same issue with covering up the black box, but I'll tell you a little conversation I had with a support agent today.

I called support and the lady said what has already been suggested, but she also said to wait it out and that there IS a firmware update coming out for it.

I don't know if you can call and ask a support agent about this, but this is what I was personally told.

I was eventually brought up to the specialist level talking to some higher-upper guy about a different issue I had which only took thirty minutes, of course . (My serial number had been deactivated because it got mixed up with a different iPhone, so I guess it had to be reactivated?)

Edit
I'd like to point out that this post was removed twice from the apple forums, the reason wasn't listed.

You mean like there's a firmware update coming out to fix the iPad wifi issues?

Oh wait nevermind....

Ok that is freaky, each and every time I hold my 3GS with left hand with my thumb covering the left side of my phone I lose my signal each and every time. Never thought to test this because I always use my right hand (no jokes please).

If this post is serious then:
That wouldn't even make sense as you have to death grip the RIGHT side of the 3GS to see a performance dip.

The iPhone is a mixture of hardware and software, so if the problem exists in either, it affects both, hence it's the phone.

If the OP truly believes what he's trying to pawn off as a theory or a solution, then this is a real problem, period. But, Steve Jobs says there is no problem.

So, OP: which is it? :)

Hey man, don't be so greedy. Pass along what your smoking.

ITS A HARDWARE ISSUE. DEAL WITH IT.

I think Steve Jobs indirectly said there was a problem without saying it, in my opinion. If you go out openly and say there's a problem, sales will decrease (though theres already tons of sales).

He ORIGINALLY stated there was no problem.

After that, he said "There is no reception issue. Stay tuned". This could be hinting toward the reception is fine, but there is something wrong with the hardware correlating with the software, basically firmware.

So it's almost both in a way.

But it's still software :p

...Not to mention the fact I talked to a support agent who literally said there was a firmware update that is going to come.

Firmware updates, $170 gift cards and free bumpers. I'm making money just by purchasing an iPhone 4! Thank you support reps!
