Actully I was thinking more of interchangeable colors. Get a set of the plates (the bezel) and just plop them on.
The plates could even ship with the phone or sepreate for $9.99 or something

It just doesn't feel like Apple and wouldn't give them that much revenue, thus it will not happen.

How do you do right though? Other makers have tried it and well, they never did it right. You can't make it right, it just makes your product feel cheap.
Have you seen the prototype pictures? Based on this thread, I'd say no.
There is no plastic. It's aluminum and glass (maybe ceramic for the back cover). Also, the metal frame is part of the chassis, it's not removable.
That being said, there will be case manufactures that will sell colored covers for the frame.

Have you seen the disassembled 4G?? No, it' can't be changed out. It's the center of the entire assembly.
No they can't. Like I said, they're part of the chassis.
Correction, maybe they can, but it would require completely disassembling the phone and voiding your warranty.
