Hi all,

Is it possible to buy an iPhone (3Gs) without the AT&T contract ? I thought we could, obviously paying a premium, but not sure.

The reason is that I would want to bring it to Italy and set it up there ...

thx

All iPhone purchased at an Apple or AT&T store must be activated before they leave the store. Sorry.

ok, thank you much.

When is Apple going to let us chose a carrier !?!?

Probably not for a while in the US, you can still unlock the phone yourself regardless. Or if you get one from Australia, New Zealand, etc, they are sold without a contract/unlocked.

You could just buy it in Italy.. they are unlocked, and without contract. At TIM stores it is 619/719 Euros for the 3Gs. I spend roughly equal time in Italy, Germany, and the states. I bought mine in Italy and use tim in italy, t-mobile in the states, and O2 in Germany. never had any problems.

He asked if it's possible to buy an iphone without the AT&T contract, the answer is yes you can, many countries sell the iphone 3gs unlocked, if you live in America then you will have to order it from one of these countries.

simples...

Exactly, if you are going to Italy anyway, that solves your problem immediately, just buy it there.
