iPhone - question about phone calls

Whenever I am on the phone and someone is calling me on the other side, the person I am currently on the phone with could hear a beeping noise thats shows someone else is calling me! It is highly annoying and I would like to know if there is a way to turn that off????

I think the only way around this is to turn off the call-waiting feature for your account.
