OK i have some question for you guys before i go out and buy an iphone.

1. Does it cost money to activate?
2. Why Jailbreak if SDK is coming? (I know its free but another reason)
3. Should I get a refurb from http://www.apple.com?
4. Is EDGE fast or is it EXTREMELY slow?
5. What's good about Unlocking

THANKS :)

All of these questions can be answered with a quick search via the "search" tab on the upper right of this page. HOWEVER, since MR is, afterall, a helpful and supportive community...

1) Only if you have credit problems
2) That will be answered much more effectively tomorrow; for now, people choose to jailbreak because it's entirely unrestricted and gives people options they want (need) now
3) If you're looking to save a little money it couldnt hurt
4) Edge is more than fine where you have good signal; if you have poor reception your edge will lag
5) People unlock to use the phone with other service providers. If you have/like ATT, then there's no need to unlock.

Hope that helps

1. Yep, if you already have a line and just upgrading to the iPhone I believe it is $18. If you don't have a line and opening a new account with AT&T I believe it is $36

2. Personally, I would wait for SDK.

3. There is nothing wrong with refurbs. It's just phone that people returned because they changed their mine or phone that had problem and repaired (comes with new outer casing).

4. It depends if the website your going to data intense. Overall I would say it's not that bad. I would still prefer 3G cause I've had it before on other phones and it's quicker than EDGE.

5. Unlocking is just so that you can use it on other network besides AT&T. The only other network that I know of in the U.S. that uses GSM is T-Mobile.

I would say if you can afford, go for it. You won't regret it!
