I've submitted this app to some of the main websites...I thought I'd share it here in the event some of you don't check those sites. Honestly I find this to be one of the more useful apps...Hence why I spent the time creating it.

The app takes information from Yes.com to display the current song on the radio. I've added support for the major US cities...and I'm working on expanding the listings. I've optimized it for Edge use.

thanks alot! its really helpful, bookmarked :D

yes.com displays this information...The app pulls the information from that site. I'm not sure how and where they get their information from.

Ya need to add Nine FM for Chicagoland (92.5, 92.7 & 99.9)
http://weplayanything.com/

They stream online too...

For cities other than LA I added stations I thought are popular...Since I'm not from those areas. I'll add those.

Cool, but you are also missing HD radio notations and their multicasts, for instance B96 Chicago has HD2 which is all Dance music (in my opinion much better than their main station on analog & HD1)...

See:
http://www.ibiquity.com/hd_radio/hdradio_find_a_station/IL/StnMarket#stationlist

Too bad more HD Radio stations aren't also streaming on the internet... They are commercial-free at this point!

Anyway you could add San Diego to the list? It is after-all the 8th largest city in America, :)

1) New York, N.Y. 8,143,197
2) Los Angeles, Calif. 3,844,829
3) Chicago, Ill. 2,842,518
4) Houston, Tex. 2,016,582
5) Philadelphia, Pa. 1,463,281
6) Phoenix, Ariz. 1,461,575
7) San Antonio, Tex. 1,256,509
8) San Diego, Calif. 1,255,540
9) Dallas, Tex. 1,213,825
10) San Jose, Calif. 912,332

Desperate In Indy

Someone finally made me create an account so I can post... (It took forever to load yes.com on the iPhone from work over Edge which means -- I need you  )

Could you please add Indianapolis, Indiana?
93.1
94.7
96.3
99.5
100.9
103.3
105.7
106.7

Should just about cover everything except hard country here.

Something to think about, depending on how you've implemented your site and if you can use DBs (php/mysql or something), and how much free time you have, you might think about this:

1 - grabbing every station from yes.com by city
2 - add a vote-type interface or option to your site
3 - track the amount of votes that any station gets for any city (maybe the min is 100 to be added to the list)
4 - dynamically generate your site to include any city/state/station that has received enough votes...

That would allow you to not have to manually add everyone's requests (which will certainly be a pain in about 34 minutes)... Also, would be fun to program, I think. I could help if you needed it, I suppose (in my free time)...

Anyway, just a thought.

You could add Salt Lake too!
Were in the top...

108 San Bernardino California 191,631
109 Laredo Texas 191,538
110 Reno Nevada 190,248
111 Arlington CDP Virginia 189,927
112 Boise Idaho 189,847
113 Winston-Salem North Carolina 188,934
114 Columbus Georgia 185,948
115 Little Rock Arkansas 184,055
116 Salt Lake Utah 181,266

oh... wait...
We're almost bigger than Boise!

I added those two cities. The way I'm extracting information from the website..I'm not sure if I can include all cities...Which would be ideal. I initially did this only for LA, and then I decided to expand it.

In general most people don't have HD radio...At least to my knowledge ;)

And for some clarification for some of the purposes of this app:

Have you ever been in the car or listening to the radio and you don't
know the name of the song on the radio? And then you try to ask
someone and they don't know and then you spend an hour of mental time
trying to remember some of the lyrics so you can in some way identify
the song?

Or given the format of the app...Have you ever been able to look at
all the songs playing on the radio and then been able to go to the
station playing the song you prefer? Or been able to avoid going to
stations with commercials playing?

Well you can do these things with this app...

Looks like a pretty cool app that could definitely find it's way onto my iPhone if, say, St. Louis were added? (; At your convenience, of course. Many thanks.

This is an awesome app! Thanks for creating this! There are so many times I hear a song, and wait to hear who it is, and the DJ's never announce it.

Is a feature possible to get the previous song played? or the last 5? I can see me struggling to get a WiFi spot, or EDGE moving too slow, and miss the info!
