I moved from Verizon over to AT&T for the iPhone. So far I have had pretty lackluster radio performance. I'm wondering if these issues affect other iPhone users, or if it's just my phone. Keep in mind that when these issues arise, my phone is showing nearly all bars:

    1. A good 15-20% of my calls connect normally, but the person on the other end cannot hear me at all. I have to hang up and try again.

    2. I've heard reports that people have tried to call me and it goes straight to voice mail, even though my phone is sitting there with full bars and no EDGE usage. I recently found out about this issue when my friend (on Verizon) tried to call me while he was 5 feet away from me, and it went straight to voice mail. He tried again a few second later and it went through.

    3. Plenty of dropped calls. I'm in full coverage, but the phone drops calls at least 10% of the time.

Again, my phone is generally showing full bars when these issues arise. However, I have noticed that when these things do happen (especially the dropped call issue), the phone will go from full bars down to 1 quickly, and then back up to full bars.

I'm going back up to college here in a few days, so I'm going to check out the performance there. Before I call Apple / AT&T and complain, I was just wondering if these issues happen to anyone else?

These issues have not happened to me. My iPhone has been very consistent, and I have not dropped a call on it yet. I've had it for about 16 days and put a little over 2,100 minutes of voice airtime on it.

I would say first, check the coverage maps to make sure AT&T is (supposed to be) covering your area well. If the map looks good, then complain. You likely have a phone with a bad radio.

I have had strong and clear reception, and the sound is very good, especially when I have my headphones or earbud on. Then it is truly amazing how good the conversational quality is.

    in fact, the opposite...

    Yeah,

I'd have to agree. My iphone has worked almost flawlessly. Never dropped a call yet... I've even gotten reception in places i never had reception before. I swear I even got calls while underground on 2 different subway platforms.

None of my complaints includes reception. Lack of a working remote control on the other hand....

Don't worry man you are definitely not alone. 90% of the time the person on the other end can barely make out what I am saying and usually vice versa. And that's with 4-5 bars of service. And that's in a wide variety of places from rural MA to Manhattan. To work around the problem I have been experimenting with the strange ways of holding the phone that don't involve completely covering the black plastic cover on the back with my hand. Supposedly that can block alot of signal. Still seems weird to me though. I wonder if its a problem with our particular phones.

The entire area around my house is blanketed in "Best". I think I'll send it in after I get up to my new apartment.
