Last post on the subject, I promise. :D

Why can't you understand that the public may see it one way, but the bean counters will see it another??? Is the concept that difficult?

did you read my last post? i said behind the scenes (ie apple, verizon and at&t) will see it as a variation of the iPhone 4, but that will have no affect on how it gets treated in general. i get that concept you're trying to say, but it's going to be an iPhone 4 and treated as such. therefore, as i said, fits under the same precedent as other carriers getting the phone. you obviously don't get that concept and thats all i'm saying on the matter with you.

Sorry, I don't think it will be ignored internally. It all comes down to money above all.

(I guess I lied...oops...gonna have to ignore so I won't be tempted to reply....later)

yes and they will get money from doing as i said, just like they have done when exclusivity has broken internationally. you really have not read what i've said! lol. they will get 18months life out of a CDMA iPhone 4 as it will be the only model on Verizon until june then it will become an entry level model with a new iPhone coming out in June as the main model. they will make money from the people that just want an iPhone 4 asap on Verizon, they'll make money from it being an entry level phone from June and also in June anyone that bought the iPhone 4 before hand that wants the newest hardware asap and pay ETF or get it at full retail. JUST LIKE IN THE UK.

I believe we will see iPhone 4 Tuesday and a new iPhone 5(4s?) in june for both carriers. This makes sense for apple b/c they will probably make a killing for 6 months selling on verizon. Then when the new one comes out, they will make the usual kililing off AT&T plus verizon again. Sure some customers will be getting the "old iPhone" but most consumers accept the fact that technology is old almost as soon as you buy it. For those who don't accept it (peope in this forum, myself included) they will buy it in February and the new one in June.

thanks for your logic, thats what i have been trying to say...

So it's the iPhone 4, as stated no extra features, just made to work with CDMA, it was treated just like the existing iPhone 4, pretty much like every other new carrier announcement and notice when asked about if it's a yearly refresh, they said they don't comment on that, so rather than admitting straight up that they will also get the refresh in June like AT&T, as that would kill any sales until then, they basically say no comment, if it was a yearly refresh, they'd have admitted that there and then....

Your logic is.... illogical. Why do you think WE would know if Verizon is on a yearly refresh? Does Apple ever tell its customers when its new products are coming out? We can ASSUME we'll get a new iPhone in June on AT&T, but "no comment" tells us absolutely nothing about Verizon's plans.

they have an obvious cycle, it'd be more illogical to think you'd get a new phone on AT&T and in the other countries that get it when AT&T to any other time, Apple have a cycle set in place and they follow it, it's been yearly so far, so it's extremely likely that this june there will be another.

my point is that at the Q&A today, when asked about if they will do a yearly cycle, they said no comment, which makes it good odds that they're going to do a simultaneous release of the next iteration in June, otherwise if its AT&T in june with the next iteration then Verizon has to wait until next Feb, they may as well have said yes to yearly.

so are you calling the person that asked that question in the Q&A illogical for asking it? since he and lots of other people can see the trend in place for a yearly cycle? i think it's illogical to not expect a new iPhone on AT&T in June.

I agree with your last sentence. I believe we'll likely get a new iPhone in June on AT&T. Let's not forget the rest of the world doesn't have this nonsense that we in American experience with the up-till-now one-network monopoly of the iPhone, so Apple isn't going to hold back on a worldwide iPhone release just because Verizon in the USA only got their iPhone in early 2011.

It will definitely be interesting to see what happens, though, in regards Verizon and a new iPhone in June. It certainly won't breed goodwill among their new iPhone customers if four months after purchasing their 4s that 5 comes out. But, who knows?

Again i point out, in regards to the bit in bold, this would be NO different to what happened here in the UK when O2 lost exclusivity and Orange & Vodafone offered the 3GS in January 2010 then offered the iPhone 4 at launch in June. Why should the situation with Verizon be ANY different? you lot aren't special lol. I see it as iPhone 4 now, then new one in June on AT&T, Verizon and the rest of the world. the iPhone 4 will be continued to be sold on AT&T and Verizon as entry level phones, just like the 3GS is now. Apple/Verizon still get an 18 month life cycle out of the iPhone 4. It makes perfect sense especially when there's already the precedent of this in the UK

i'm willing to revisit this if i'm wrong tho.

No no, I don't *disagree* with you. I just can't say for sure that it will happen HERE. Let's not forget America always has to do things differently. :D

FYI, and as a disclaimer, I'm a Brit myself, born and raised in North London (Hamsptead area) but moved to the US in my early 20s in 2002. So really, you're not offending me by telling *us* we're not special. :p

well i think its not a different situation, so i think we'll see it happening, but like i said, i'll admit i'm wrong if that's the case :)

Well we're all just guessing here. I just think Americans on Verizon will be quite PO'ed if/when the iPhone 5 comes out in June. Or they won't care. My dad, for example, couldn't care less when new Apple stuff comes out. He's still rocking a 1st-gen MacBook Air for goodness sake!

It would be smart for anyone on AT&T that actually cares about having the latest/greatest iPhone hardware to actually wait to switch to Verizon until the next phone-release announcement. I love having the new iPhone each year, so it would drive me bananas to have to pay now on Verizon, and then pay the probably exorbitant upgrade fee in June...!

But, indeed, let's see what happens!

and like i said, some people in the UK got the iPhone on the new carriers mid cycle and some got PO'd about the iPhone 4 coming out 5 months later, others didn't care. the carriers didn't care about that, neither do apple then, would not be any different this time round. i may be guessing, but it's a highly educated guess

Eh fair enough. We'll see how Apple treats its home base. You may indeed be right! :) I mean at least give Verizon customers the choice, yes? If you don't release the iPhone 5 to Verizon, the customers will complain, even those who didn't jump to iPhone 4, and if you DO release it in June, then those who jumped to iPhone 4 in February-May will complain.

So, if Apple can't win, they may as well make money! :D

I will add, though, that this is the first CDMA iPhone ever released, so things may be a little different when it comes to iPhone 5, but maybe not. Pure speculation on my part!

This is pure speculation and it has no basis, aside from Verizon's "no comment" today, but I think we won't see a unified iPhone until iPhone 6. AT&T will get the iPhone 5 in June as usual. Verizon will get it's iPhone 5 in late September/October. iPhone 6 will unify them both in June 2012. It will be a universal phone and support LTE.

I tend to agree, but this is assuming we get an LTE/CDMA/WCDMA chip by then.

i never said a unified iPhone 5 in june, i only meant an iPhone 5 on both networks, one CDMA and one GSM in june like how we now have 2 variations on the iPhone 4. maybe 2012 or whenever there will be a universal iPhone. since they've said they've been working on the CDMA version of the iPhone for a while, what's stopping them releasing the CDMA one with the GSM one from this June going forwards? especially since, judging from the supposed leaked images of the iphone 5 frame implies it won't be much of a visual change anyway.
