Over on howard forums there are some guys that are saying that if you cancel your iphone plan it relocks itself. Im pretty sure ive heard conflicting reports on here (and i trust you guys more here anyways). So can someone here tell me if this is true or not? Id really like it not to be.

    Thanks,
    Daniel

I would assume that if the SIM is removed from the device BEFORE calling to cancel service the iPhone will not lock itself back up. Its entirely possible that AT&T will relock the phone but the fact is you have payed $499-$599 for this thing and it would be a terrible move on AT&Ts part to lock it up just because you don't want to give them $$.

The phone was sold to be used with service. It would not surprise me at all if the phone relocked itself with or without sim. Apple makes money on the service fees. It is not being sold as a stand alone device. If you bought one with no intent of getting service and it relocks you have nobody to blame except yourself. At&t and apple did not sell it to you as a standalone device.

I used mine for two days as a standalone device, and I didn't have it relocked.
