My wife dropped her iPhone, which resulted in the white screen of death. The phone is otherwise working properly as far as I can tell. I tried doing all the various resets, to no avail.

After doing a little research, I decided the problem might be a loose screen connector. I opened the phone, and carefully checked the connectors. Connector 1 popped off the second I touched it. Connectors 2 and 3 were seated firmly. I reattached everything and closed up the phone. I powered up and got nothing--the screen was black, but the phone still worked.

I was extremely careful during the repair. Everything came apart and went back together easily. No tugging, pulling etc.

So now I'm wondering if I should replace the LCD and digitizer, or just forget about it. I would sell it on eBay as is, but I can't figure out how to erase all the info on the phone (my wife is using my old phone and I upgraded to a 3GS, so this is really a spare phone).

Any suggestions on how to proceed? (FWIW, no Apple store within 5 hours of here.)

A 3rd party can usually repair it for about $100

Do a search on craigslist for iPhone repair, or Google.

You may have to send your phone in and wait a few days to get it back.
