Hi Everyone,

A little bit of background - I purchased a certified refurbished iphone 6s and had the phone for roughly a month. After getting a hairline crack in the phone I took it to a local shop to get the screen and battery replaced. They replaced both and at first there was a slight issue where the screen would come up with white lines and the touch would stop working. I pressed around the screen and it seemed to temporarily fix the issue. I was planning on taking the phone back in to get this issue resolved however before I could even do this one day after the repair I plugged in an AUX cord and the screen flashed to black and nothing would work (forced reboot, restore on iphone etc). I took the phone back and after dodging my calls for three weeks I was told that the motherboard was fried due to an already pre-existing short circuit and that I would have to pay for anymore repairs and that the repair shop was not responsible as it was a preexisting condition on the phone and had nothing to due with the screen and battery. Sounds like BS to me - what do you guys think?

Thank you in advance

Will check. I am convinced their repair had something to do with the failure. Any thoughts?

Did you buy the refurb from Apple?

I'd probably only have taken the phone in to Apple for repairs. Those local shops are notorious for doing shoddy work with cheap parts.

Unless I.T was an Apple store and authorized repair center... it’s gonna fall on def ears and nothing can be done

"Certified refurbished"? From Apple, or a 3rd party purveyor?

I suppose certified can mean anything to anyone OTHER than Apple.

Either way, looks like you are in for a fight considering the repair shop dodged you for 3 weeks...seems they knew to avoid contact with you or else they most likely would have told you the circuit board was the issue right after you contacted them about the dead phone....shops make money repairing phones, not dodging calls.

Most local iPhone repair shops outside of HK/China are hit or miss. Those local shops don't have the skills or the parts to do the repairs properly because the repair processes are developed overseas. Even Apple doesn't do their refurbishment process in North America due to lack of skill.

Take it to an Apple Store and see if they will exchange it out of warranty for the appropriate fee.
