I’ll preface that I usually take my iDevices to my local Apple Store for repair. But given the current state of the country, I’m sending in my 11 Pro to have the front screen replaced.

For those who have sent their iPhone’s to Apple for a screen repair, have you wiped the device completely? I know Apple says to erase, but my iPhone has several apps I use for work, and erasing isn’t ideal. I’ll be on paternity leave while the phone is being repaired, so worst case is I reach out to my company’s IT department upon my return. But if I can avoid erasing my iPhone, that would be preferred.

They advice you to wipe the device and take a backup so that while going through the repair process if they break the device then they’re going to give you a new device and you won’t really have anything you had on your older device. Better be safe than sorry.

Totally makes sense, thanks. Appreciate the response.

I guess I was lucky, I took my 6S in for a new battery under Apple's replacement plan. They replaced battery at the store and I went home. Then I found out the Home button wasn't working, so I went back and they checked the phone and said the technician broke a lead to the switch and replaced the phone with an identical phone (their policy). I was able to restore everything as it was before in the store before I left. I had everything I had before.

Yep got super lucky there. Apple never takes responsibility for your data left on the device. It’s too messy.
