I need to restore my iPhone (currently OS 3.1.2) back to its original factory setting. If I do this through iTune, will I have to upgrade to the new OS 4.0?

I don't wish to do that, as I have a new ibootrom, so I near that jail breaking in the new OS is not yet possible unless I have made some smart decision in the past, which I don't know if I did.

Anyway, is there anyway I can restore factory settings WITHOUT upgrading to the latest firmware, ie. keep in 3.1.2?

Thank you for your help.

sorry to crap on your thread but when I jailbroke my 3gs couple of days ago you guys told me to do that cydia option that pops up the first time where it saves the info of my iphone on their server. So now if I accidentally upgraded I can go back to 3.1.3?

If you only saved your hashes a couple days ago, you don't have 3.1.3 saved, so you cannot restore to 3.1.3. Check Cydia for SHSH versions saved. Likely says 4.0, might only be 4.0.1 as 4.0 signing was discontinued a couple days ago.
