Ringtones

Ringtones can actually be up to 40 seconds long not 30. I have over 60 on my iPhone that work fine.

make suere there is no excess information in the ringtone, just the name of the ringtone. also make sure the ringtone is already in itunes.

what exactly happens when you sync over?

Ding! Ding! Ding! ugh the drag and drop ringtone that was not showing up in my iPhone was frustrating the heck out of me! It was showing up in a "ringtones" tab in both the Library and iPhone section of iTunes but not in my actual iPhone. It finally worked after removing all unecessary info from the file. I only have "name" and "album" info and it worked like a charm. Thanks!

Bought RCP's ringtone packs from the iTunes store. Can't install. Changed to .m4r. No dice. Tried everything listed in this thread. No dice.

Why is this so friggin' difficult?

Make sure that the ringtone file itself is in itunes, that there is no extra information on it, it is no longer then 40 seconds, and also try manually dragging it over i find that to be a better option. there is no reason as to why it won't sync over.

what error message do you get exactly?

Ringtone does not sync to iPhone!

I am having problems with syncing the ringtone from iTunes to my iPhone.. I previously transferred ringtones from iTunes to my 3Gs without having any problems at all, but it will not work with iPhone 4... The ringtone is the right lenght and .m4r, and it is located in the Ringtones folder in iTunes. When I check what is on the device (left hand side in iTunes) it even says the ringtone is in the ringtone folder on my phone! When I check my phone after syncing (tried both manually and automatically) however, the ringtone is nowhere to be found.

Can anyone please help me, as I am dying inside having Marimba as my ringtone... Thanks a million on beforehand!

Similar problems here - used to have no problems until iPhone and iTunes updates installed, now each update brings a new problem to syncing Custom ringtones.

Last but one update meant I had to manually sync custom ringtones. Last update has meant I had to remove all other 'info' on track other than title (suggestions from other forums).

iPhone is my first Apple product, and the frequent updates which come thick and fast at the moment, each update causing me multiple problems is really ruining the 'warm and fuzzy' feeling I used to have about Apple.

Ringtone trouble

Came across this simple advice on another source, which worked for me!

Just change the name of the ringtone to something else. I just added rt to the end, and they all worked fine.

Give it a try.

Here is the right answer.

On the left hand side in itunes, you will see your iphone device that says let say "owner's iphone".
Once you have created a custom .m4r, drag it to this iphone name (instead of ringtone folder in itunes) i.e "owner's iphone". You will see itunes will sync. After the sync is complete, go to "sounds" on your iphone and you will see your ringtonton under "custom".
Good luck.

iphone ringtone sync problem..

I have read a dozen of these forums and none have provided and actual solution that works!! I found a workaround that seemed to work for me. It's not great, but it seems to do the trick. Basically I had about 8 ringtones that I had created way back in the day that I've carried over from my IP3...These old ringtones (created via "convert to aac, less than 30 seconds, yadda yadda) always seemed to sync up just fine even with my IP4. But as you have all mentioned all NEWLY created ringtones would not sync.

I had to RENAME the new ringtone the exact same name as an old one I had created (one that did sync). It's almost like the old ringtones have a backstage pass to the IP4's exclusive concert...and the new ringtones (poor bastards) are the ugly groupies that can't get in. As long as you disguise the new ones renaming them exactly the same they will in fact transfer over. I just managed them by plugging my in IP4 and clicked "Sync ringtones" and hit "selected ringtones" and checked the disguised ringtone.

Only problem is that you will have the wrong name of the song, but who cares because after you set it in settings that sweet melody will play and you can throw the middle finger to this glitch every time someone calls you up. Hope that helps...it's not perfect but it gets the job done.

********************************************************
This just in....

After doing all of that I decided to see (after a successful sync of the song, but not the name) if renaming my original track and properly naming the newly added track would work and it DID--go figure. Now I have the old ringtone and the new one that is properly named...all sync'd up perfectly!! Best of luck...

How to Make iPhone Ringtone From DVD Music/Music/Video?

Your phone's ringtone is also really important to show your difference from others. So how to make your own unique ringtone for your incoming calls, clock alarms, clock timer becomes a really important thing.

Today I will show you how to make your own iPhone ringtones from your DVD/video/music. Someone will say that you can buy them on itunes. Yes, everybody can buy it. It is not unique and special. Let's make our own iPhone ringtone together.

Things you need:
1. DVD/video/audio files that contains the music you want
2. iPhone Ringtone Maker

Step 1: Load File/DVD
Load your video/audio files or DVD to this iPhone Ringtone Maker

Step 2: Choose music
You need to choose which part you want to convert as your iPhone ringtone or you want to make the whole files as your iPhone ringtone. Just drag the bar to set the begin point and end point

Step 3: Pre-listening
You can pre-listening the ringtone, if you do not like it you can adjust the length of your ringtone.

Step 4: Make Ringtone
After you have done all the tings above, you can click “Generate” button to start the conversion.
Soon you will get your own ringtone.

Tips:
1. if you want to put your ringtone directly to your iPhone, please check the box before “import to iPhone”.

2. if you want to manage your ringtone, you can click “manage ringtone” button to do it easily.

For Mac users, you can use iPhone Ringtone Maker for Mac to do this easily with the same operation as windows one.

Help!

Had a iPhone 3GS with custom ringtones downloaded from myxer (already in .m4r) got a iPhone 4. Downloaded new ringtones from myxer. Can't add new ringtones to iTunes folder. Ringtones are stored in a file on desktop n with the 3G I just dragged n dropped. Already checked the format m they are still in the correct format. Any ideas?

Only two of each

Ok I'm having a similar, but different problem. I have now successfully placed two purchased and two custom ringtones on my phone, but the problem is that no matter how many ringtones I drag, it will only allow two purchased and two custom, it just switches them out. Is there some kind of setting or something that I don't know about that allows more?

I think I figured it out!

I had the same problem. My iphone 4 wouldn't let me add more than one custom ringtone to my phone at a time.

I followed all the instructions i found from others.
set ringtone control to manual ect.

Here is a good link to those instruction.

http://www.demogeek.com/2010/03/24/how-to-add-multiple-ringtones-to-your-iphone/

but still didn't work.

after you do all the steps above, sync your Iphone without any custom ringtones (uncheck all your ringtones and then sync the phone) and then go back and check all your ringtones again. Sync once more and they should them be accessible on the phone. I am not too up on tech stuff but i think it is kind of like letting the ringtones reboot?

hope it works.

I was having the same problem - not being able to sync my custom ringtone to my iphone 3gs. After messing around for a while this is what worked for me:

After converting m4a to m4r with the file on the desktop, drag and drop it into the "ringtones" folder, or where ever you compile them. From that folder, drag and drop it into the ringtones section in itunes. For some reason, this extra step makes it work. Also, make sure that the file title doesn't have parentheses, as one of my ringtones synced only after I changed the file name.

Here's the solution for 1 ringtone problem

It happens when you manually manage music and videos plus when you move ringtone files from your desktop or another folder instead of the RINGTONE folder under LIBRARY.

To solve this,
1. Delete ringtone files in the Ringtone folder under DEVICE first
2. Put ringtones into the Ringtones folder under LIBRARY
3. Move ringtones from LIBRARY to DEVICE

Unfortunately, I don't have solution for the default ringtone problem mentioned above. But if you have other problems regarding ringtones + iTunes, please refer to http://thisisfx.com/how_to_sync_ringtones.html or email me. I am gathering ringtone related problems.

Ringtone problem

Once you have converted the sound file into a shorter 30 second version and imported it into iTunes, you have select the mobile device. One the top bar where you get Summary, Info, Music, etc. you will see a new selection called Ringtones, you have to check mark the box there asking it to sync the ringtones. That should take care of the problem.

At last

This has at last worked for me.
I clicked the "manually manage music and videos" and synced. Then dragged the ringtone into the device ringtone folder during the sync.
It's the first time that anything new has appeared in my sounds - ringtones folder!

Thanks!!

I saw the same warning message for my phone. Here's the workaround that worked on my iPhone.

In iTunes, in the Summary tab for your phone, de-select "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected." Click "Apply." The phone will begin a manual sync. WHILE this is happening, drag the ringtones you want from the iTunes ringtone list onto the iPhone. If it works for you like it did for me, the ringtones will appear in the ringtones list on your iPhone.

This only worked while the phone was being manually sync'ed. When I waited until after the manual sync to drag some new tones onto the phone, they didn't get added. I just clicked "sync" and dragged more tones on during the sync.

My playlists and whatnot were not trashed doing this.

If you like an automatic sync, you can re-select the automatic sync after you're done with this.

1 Ringtone problem

I have followed all the instructions to convert ringtones and tried the various suggestions listed by others. HOwever, my problem is that when I drag by wr4 files back to the Library, it appears in the music folder instead of the ringtone folder. So when I sync my phone, it appears in my list of songs instead of under custom ringtones. Please help. Thanks.

iphone ringtone sync problem...

This was driving me crazy, like many.

Please make sure there are no spaces in the ring tone name.

I removed all spaces from each Ring Tone and all my ring tones are now loaded on my iPhone, working great.

I hope this works for you.

Happy Holidays !!!!!!!!!!!
