One asked if my phone was the new "iTunes Apple phone"

Actually, I was thinking of starting a thread on a similar topic after my experience last weekend. I was home visiting family who are decidedly not tech/gadget geeks. None of them used the term "iPhone". Instead, they kept talking about the "iPod phone".

Now, I know that Apple is marketing the dual functionality pretty strongly, but it surprised me that none of them had picked up on the actual product name.

I have been to the Blue Bell factory up there, I live in Houston as well :D

I will also comment on the awesome coverage in the Houston area. I usually spend most of my time in the southwest, memorial city, river oaks, and downtown parts of H-Town but I rarely have less than 5 bars.

I was in Ft. Lauderdale/North Miami for half of last week and I noticed a little slower EDGE connection than what I am used to around the Houston area, but I still had about 4 or 5 bars the whole time. I noticed an earlier comment noting the crap reception around there but I think some type of interference may of been taking place.

Having everyone asking if I can send MMS on my "iPod Phone" so they can brag that their Razr can does get a quite annoying, but that is why I have the Vibe duos :D

They're also all over Texas, from what I understand. Also, Texas is a surprisingly Teched up state...

Yes, Texas is not just oil, cowboys and cattle. Matt Mullenweg, founder of Word Press, was born and raised in Houston. He is in San Francisco now, but Houston was home until 2+ years ago.

Dell Computer (pardon me Apple fans) is located just outside Austin. (I know Dell is having market share problems currently, but that doesn't mean the technology isn't still there.)

The South by Southwest convention in Austin is tech heaven for one week a year, having started as a music and movie forum.

Texas Instruments, developer of the TI 83, the magical (When I was a kid, I used a sliderule and graphed problems manually.) graphing calculator which every high school kid is now required to have for Algebra and higher math, is located just outside Houston.

Remember, the first syllable in "Texas" is "Tech".

Wahoo!
:)

that calculator is the worst organised software i've ever seen

sure it does everything you could possibly want (except solve square root of 2 maybe)...but you'll never be able to find out those things unless someone shows you

speaking of texas...doesn't it also still have the death penalty? rigorously enforced by the current president i beleive

I had two children go through the Houston Independent School System. I had to buy three TI 83s overtime. The cost was ridiculous -- around $90 a piece. I think doing certain math problems manually, like graphing, is important for developing the thought processes. (Think push-ups for the brain.) I had to buy three since high school students have sticky fingers and rob each other rather too often. The calculators were supposed to be terrific. Truly, the school district required their usage. I about choked when I learned they could be loaded with games, too.

I am saddened to read that in addition to being obscenely expensive, they are poorly organized.

Thank you for the information.
