I'm new to iPhone after yeards of Android and I'm still getting used to some "quirks".

One that's driving me mad is when I wake during the night and want to check the time. My iPhone screen is blindingly bright. Auto brightness is turned on but the screen doesn't seem to dim all the way, or perhaps the auto brightness doesn't work when the room is completely dark?

Anyone else have this issue and is there a solution?

Restart the device. It works fine for me.

The newer models are brighter in general but if you still think it’s brighter then you can drag the brightness down from quick toggle screen when you wake up.

Here's a trick I've done with every iPhone I've used. Go into where you set brightness in Settings (it doesn't matter if you're in a dark room or not). Turn off Auto Brightness. Drag the brightness slider all the way down. THEN turn on Auto Brightness.

For whatever reason iPhone always adjusts Auto Brightness to a higher point when you switch it on when the slider isn't all the way down.
