phoneorpda, there is no solution... you have to be lucky and find the 5 model... but please, stop returning iphones!!! you're very unlucky and your fear of getting another checkered LCD is exactly why you get them! even if you were to get a 5 model, with your luck you would get one that has 50 dead pixels and a battery that lasts 30 minutes.

While my memory may be a tad hazy on this, didn't the 1st generation iPod work v. well, right off the bat? Wasn't everyone happy with the way it performed?
A first generation device that costs the average user approx $2000 over 2 years shouldn't have so many problems, especially since it's Apple, we're talking about, not Microsoft.
These issues could have a lasting negative impact on Apple's reputation, especially with folks who've never used an Apple product before, except an iPod. That's what makes the premature birth of the iPhone, hard to fathom.

I also noticed that my new 7 series phone feels different. The buttons are recessed and there is a little play on the volume button. Anyone have that problem? This was not evident in my previous two 5 series phones.

You know he really does have a good point. We, are not going to fix this. The only thing we can really do is wait and hope that Apple addresses the issue in some capacity.
Either shipping new iPhone's with better LCD's. At witch point i may try for an exchange.

phoneorpda, have you ever watched "The Secret"? if you really want a 5 model, perfect LCD iPhone then just keep thinking positive and convince yourself that you will have a 5 model in your hand... never think for a second that if you exchange it again, you'll get the dreaded 7... think 5 only and keep thinking that and you will get it.

I have a 5xxxxx screen and I don't see any dots even at the highest brightness. I think I've been extremely fortunate because this iPhone has had no issues at all...no dead pixels (I've looked very carefully), no crashes, loud speaker/earpiece, everything just has worked.
I don't think I'll be returning this thing unless it catches fire and explodes 😀
I was the 5th in line at an AT&T store in Jersey City, NJ on 6/29. If it's true that there's only a limited number of units with this screen out there then it should help the resell value as well if/when I sell it in the future.

Is anything being done to make apple aware of the issue.
I mean when you get down to it. Thats really our only shot if we want this resolved.
YES! definitely try to get some shots of the two side by side... i am curious to see what one looks like without the dots...
on the note that "new" ones have the 7xxx screen, i bought mine on launch day, so i dont know if that holds true.. i just think they needed 2 manufacturers for making so many screen.. i wish we could figure out if it is a software or hardware problem.. then i could know if i should rush mine back now or wait for a software update.. either way im rolling the dice

The AppleCare guy was really helpful and said that somebody else called about that fact, and, no, it is not normal to see a grid on it.He also acknowledged the fact that it MIGHT have to do with different manufacturers, but he didn't know for sure.

If I were in your shoes, I would return mine for a refund and wait to see what happens with the 2nd generation, but that's just me. For a lot of people, it seems like having a 1st generation model is important. I guess it's a question of what's most important to you.
I waited to buy an iPhone, because my T-mobile contract has another year to go, but I was thinking about buying one as a gift for my Dad, who's birthday is in August. Since he's not tech savvy, has no patience and uses a PC (they all kinda go together don't they?) I wanted to make sure they were as easy to use as they seemed, so I started going on message boards to get "street reviews." While no 1st gen product is perfect, I'm blown away by all of issues the iPhone has.
There really are a lot. Both software and hardware. I'm kinda surprised Apple hasn't release some sort of update yet. It's been over 2 weeks. There are some bugs that should be pretty easy to fix. Where are the updates? Just one lil fix would be nice, just as a sign that apple planes to work on this thing. right now it feels like they rushed to get it out, and moved on to something els.
One poster wrote that it looked like Apple was using early adopters as testers. :-o Probably not true, but it does feel like that.
The problem is, not only are people shelling out btwn $500 - $600 bucks for this baby, they're stuck with a $60/month, 2 year contract with AT&T. Hope that doesn't apply if you return the iPhone, but I don't know.
I am very happy with the iPhone, and all things considered, I don't think it has many issues at all. This device does everything under the sun -- there are certainly going to be issues. However, all of those issues can be addressed via software. I'm not even convinced that the white dot issue cannot be fixed via software.
None the less, I know for a fact that I am a perfectionist, so I am trying to resolve the white dot issue. Others are fine with it.
I think if you bought someone an iPhone, or even one for yourself, you'd be extremely happy. I find myself using my iPhone more than my computer!

i dont think so... i think a lot of people love their iphone... i love it, even with the dots problem.. and i definitely use it more than my computer now... its a great device, and im sure a lot of the problems will go away with the next software update...
