I got mine on the first day and have the good screen. When and were these phones were shipped to may be hard to track down. The LCD ID function is nice and helps.
So are we saying that all the in stock phones now seem to have the lesser screen?
I have dead pixels and very easy to easy to see white dots... I'm just really annoyed at this point from my own experience and from the experiences of other posters. It seems like if I go in for a exchange I'm probably just going to get another POS screen and the whole cycle will just continue again and again. Can I demand a return without paying for the restocking fee? Has anyone been able to return without paying the restocking fee? I could wait a couple months until software/firmware/minor hardware upgrades are made. I just don't feel like dealing with the bugs even though the phone is uber cool.
I stood in line the first day and got my iPhone and the first batch. It's the 7452 version. The theory that the 74 series is a later/cheaper revision of the LCD is not correct.Proven by my iPhone.
Not sure our small forum study shows the 74's are all POS. But they still could be later and or current versions. It's possible that apple has been building 5755136 for months then a few weeks or months ago, started making the 7455232. This could have happen b4 the 29th, so you would be able to get a 7455232 on day one.
I'm not sure thats the case though. in my exchanging experience they all seem to be mixed together. Here is order i got them.
1) Clear
2) Clear
3) Dots
4) Clear
5) Clear
6) Dots
7) Clear
8) Dots
Spiroid,
were they all from the same store?
At the apple store now.
they seem to have replaced all iphones with the new screen with the defect(if you wanna call it that).
I am sure the old models on the floor didn't have the issue.
I guess it is the norm from now on.
So if this is the case, I just sent my iPhone in for nothing. My luck, they'll take it apart, then it'll get put back together and come back with more problems or scratches or something. I'm a little nervous now!

just swapped it.
same screen.
they are all like this for now.
at least everywhere in Los Angeles.
I really hope it is a software issue

Did you have any other defects that allowed you to get the exchange? Or did the Genius acknowledge that the white dots are not normal?
can't always be perfect 🙁Argh! I know what you guys are fussing about now. I had one of the launch day phones and had to send it back because it was rebooting. The service phone I received did not have the dots issue. However, the replacement unit I just received has nowhere near as vivid colors, and the white dots can clearly be seen at 1/2 brightness. 😱
I got a 57 LCD with the dots on the plastic tab, but it had bad pixels. So somewhere out there exists new iPhones with the better LCD.I think I have made an observation about this problem though that would help identify which phone has which lcd. The plastic wrapping around a new iphone has a tab to help you lift it out of the box. In 5755136 models this tab is clear, however when i got a 7455232 the tab is (ironicly) covered in a checkered pattern with white dots. This is just my own observation can anyone help me confirm this?
Thanks

Ok, I have the 5755136 model. I bought it on the 29th. I can see the grid pattern, but it seems to be only in sunlight and i have to look at it at a weird angle..
Can anyone confirm this on their 57's?
hope this helps,
