iPhone SE (2016) iPhone SE (1st gen) and compatability with Apple Watch S6?

A family member has a 1st generation iPhone SE and wants to buy a Series 6 Apple Watch. They intend on keeping their phone until next year's iPhone in September/October '21.

Will an S6 Apple Watch work ok with a first gen SE or will there be any issues?

Bonus question: Will the SE likely receive the latest iOS updates until next Sept/Oct?

Will work fine, and yes the original SE still get updates until September. Maybe even another year beyond that, but that’s just guessing.

It works fine. I will warn that iOS 14.1 chews through a lot of battery on the original SE. I am using one right now with my series 6, as I wait for the mini to be released.
