Hello all!

A couple of months ago I discovered reports about Apple support ending soon for many models of iPhone.

Despite a lot of searching I've been unable to find full details on Apple's iPhone support site, especially as this news pertains to the 1st gen. iPhone SE? However I did find that iOS 13 will be supported, and that is a good start...

Does anybody know how much longer the 1st gen. iPhone SE (A1723) will be supported for? If the answer is at least a year from now then that is acceptable to us (my girlfriend and me).

Thank you!!

Don't know how much longer Apple will support the original SE, but as of today, it's still supported. And... so what if support will end? You can still use the phone after support is ended. It's not like the phone is suddenly no longer going to work after support is ended. Many folks are still using their iPhone 4s, 5, 5c, etc. Support for those phones ended long ago.

Thank you @chscag . I agree with your reasoning.

And yes, I am also one of the people who, until very recently, was happily using my iPhone 4s as my primary phone until the screen smashed. Before that I was using a 1st gen. iPhone SE, which was tied for my favorite model of all time with the 4s (I've had several of each).

I'm considering the 2nd gen. now but until I get closure regarding several important factors, investing in a brand new, latest edition, mid to high end smartphone is a recipe for disaster.

I'd say iOS 14 is likely but not 100% guaranteed. iOS 15 I'd say slim chance. As soon as the 6S is cut, the SE 1st Gen will be included..

Awesome, thank you @BugeyeSTI ! This is a decent guesstimate, highly plausible. Plus it's backed up by @chscag 's reasoning above anyway, so in this case it's most likely to be a win scenario, provided that the second hand mail order store that we are ordering from gets its act together, touch wood ?

What about security updates? I stop using iPhones when they no longer get the latest version of iOS since that’s when security updates are no longer provided.

iOS 14 may be the last version but who knows, in recent years more devices seem to make the cut.

Pretty sure the original SE will be cut off alongside with 6s this year. iOS 13 is the end of the road for it. Even though the A9 would likely be able to handle iOS 14 now that the SE 2 is released Apple would clearly like you to just upgrade already, hehe. It’s been iOS 9-13, 5 major versions. Pretty good run.

We’ll know for sure in less than a month
