Hi,

Let's start speculate on the next iPhone SE (SE for Small Edition?) if there is a new one coming in 2018 for real.

What I would like to see:

  • A size between the SE and a regular iPhone 7. (4.3 inch screen)
  • Looking like an iPhone 8 (without glass for wireless charging)
  • True space grey color
  • iPhone 7 or 8 specs (A11 chip, etc.)
  • Front camera at 7 MP
  • New rear camera
  • True Tone display
  • Higher contrast ratio and dpi.
  • Headphone jack
  • Real home button
  • Touch ID 2.0
  • Water and scratch/drop resistant

What would you like?

That list looks great. Only changes I’d make:

20MP is ridiculous for a front camera. The iPhone 8 front camera is only 7MP...

Lose the headphone jack. Add 3D Touch and the capacitive home button.

Basically, a 4.3” iPhone 7/8 would be perfect.

Your list sounds pretty good but I'd keep the headphone jack. A larger screen would be nice if the overall size remains at 4 inch, so reduce the bezels. I actually would like a glass back since the 4s was one of my favorite phones. I liked the way it felt in my hands over the metal backs.

I would like to see the exact same thing as the iPhone 5S is now just with iPhone 7 (or 8?!?) internals and features. But 7 is good enough. Same 4 inch screen same form factor. Don't mess up a size that is great. They need a 4 inch option.

My opinions :)
What I expect:
1. Same 4" beautiful design to keep the price
2. A10 2GB RAM
3. Front camera at 7 MP
4. Rear camera of iPhone 7
5. Headphone jack ( won't redesign it)
6. Touch ID
7. No water resistance, there is 0 chance that Apple is redesigning the product external IMO.

What would be ideal:
1. Same 4" design
2. A11 2-3GB RAM
3. Front camera at 7 MP
4. Rear camera of iPhone 8
5. Headphone jack
6. Touch ID 2
7. Water resistance

i like this list, except i would like the same home button that is on the 7. I'm ok with no headphone jack though.

3d touch would be good too. I find myself using more than i thought on my 7+

Agreed. Slowly increasing the size of the SE is a slippery slope and will eventually defeat the purpose. I’d love a 4.3” display, but they probably shouldn’t do that.

I, personally, would love to see the headphone jack go and have that space used for something else - Taptic Engine, bigger speaker, more room to battery...whatever.

What I want:

4.3” without bezels
Glass, wireless charging
True tone and true depth
A11 + 3GB RAM
No home button
Headphone jack

What we will probably get:

Same form factor
Wireless charging is possible but not guaranteed
True tone
A10 + 2 GB RAM
Home button
No headphone jack

First off, keep the headphone jack. Stop eliminating good, useful tech. Same with Touch ID - it's convenient and I don't have to look at my phone to unlock it.

3.5" would be ideal if you can eliminate the bezels and increase screen size, otherwise no larger than the current 4" size.

updated internals & storage

upgraded cameras provided they don't stick out

increased battery life (if thickness needs to increase to accommodate this, that'd be fine)

slate black color

I'd pay a premium for a small, top of the line phone. If I could get a 3.5" feature packed phone that wasn't "second tier" I'd be ecstatic.

I don't want it to feel like the tired and hard to hold design that of the 6,7 and now 8. Keep it similar but with internals from the 7 and screen.

Great list. Right on the money.
My changes: I like the glass, I'd prefer the haptic home button.
 
I would like to add pointed edges on the SE2 so the device can continue to stand. The curved design of the 6 is too slippery, the iPhone 4 & 5 got it right and provide something to grip.

I imagine the iPhone SE 2 will adopt a lot of the iPhone 7 features internally with the processor, Haptic home button, water resistance, etc . The question I have, is will Apple retain the headphone jack or not. I realize if they did retain it, the amount of backlash they would receive would be negative with the other iPhone models not having it. So I guess that likely won't be an option for the next iPhone SE.
 
The SE doesn't need to change much from what it is right now. I would prefer them add glass back with wireless charging, stainless steel frame. Basically a taller iPhone 4, but thinner, with 3D Touch, 2nd gen TouchID, better front camera, and perhaps attempt to stack the logic board on top of it's self to make a larger battery, and possibly room for the taptic engine. If they did that, I wouldn't buy iPhone 8 or X, I would immediately buy an SE 2.

Processor bump and 2nd gen Touch ID. Any changes to the screen size would likely kill the affordability of the SE 2. They gotta keep it basic to offer it at a low price.
