In May I upgraded my old SE to the new one. I barely had any scratches on the screen on that one and never used a case nor screen protector.

I have the new one since then and my screen has some nasty marks already. I still 'use' it the same though. Never put any keys with them or anything else in my pocket, so I don't get it, glass should become more resistant no?

Anyone else notices this too?

Something has made the marks, and the glass is tested and proven to be pretty tough until you start putting certain metals or materials on it... so if not keys, what else has caused the scratches? Can't be nothing.

I've got a release day SE (2020) and there's not a mark on it, same with the wife's SE.

If you are bothered about scratches and stuff, you need to invest in a screen protector or Apple Care, regardless of how well the old SE held up over time I would just put it down to bad luck unfortunately but it's certainly not "soft" or any less strong than the old glass, it does however have a larger surface area, so in turn will be at greater risk of marking where as a smaller device with smaller screen obviously has more chance of not coming into contact with something.

Shatter resistance vs. scratch resistance. You can’t have both. Most people prefer scratches instead of cracks, so Apple tuned their formula for recent iPhones for softer glass.
