Hello,

I'm looking for a new iPhone with touchID. I want it instead of FaceID. It will be easier to use when you can hardly keep iPhone in your hands. So there are two models : iPhone SE 2020 and iPhone 8 Plus

The iPhone SE is better than the iPhone 8
But what about iPhone 8 Plus (bigger battery and keyboard) ? Is it a good iPhone for keeping it many years ?

Best regards

I’ve had my 8+ since 2017. I bought a 2020 SE and hated the battery life on it. Sold it and kept my 8+, and put a new battery in. Runs like a champ!

I use 8 plus daily and it is great. Smooth, fast, great battery life (1-2 days depending on usage). I never run out of battery in a single day and I have 4-5 hours daily screen time (mostly safari, youtube, mail, messages, phone) and 88% battery health.

I also have the SE. I don´t think it is much faster to be honest. But it will receive longer support and does a bit better photos, thanks to A13 and has portrait mode on the front cam (but on the other hand, 8 plus has telephoto lens and can do portrait photos with any object, not just people faces with its back cam).

All in all, it depends on if you want the bigger screen or not..

I’m currently using a iPhone 8 Plus as my daily. The 1080p screen is still great and with 90% battery health, it still last me all day with my usage. Bezels are overrated imo, 8 plus is still a great, fast, and reliable phone!

I’m terms of the SE 2020, to me, it’s just a rebranded iPhone 8 with a A13 cpu, same size battery with bad battery life, same 750p screen, cameras, etc. I would need a battery case if I were to use it as my daily. Would love to see a SE+.

The SE might be slightly quicker but I never had a problem with the performance of my 8+. I use one still as a backup and testing device all the time.

I used to own an iPhone 7 Plus and switched to an SE 2020 last year.

I love the iphone SE 2020. It's fast, battery life has been great for me and it's a nice size, easy to hold and use in one hand, fits into a pocket comfortably. The camera is great, portrait mode really shines thanks to the A13 SoC.

Don't get me wrong, the 8 Plus will also be a great phone, but it was released in 2017, has a slower A11 SoC and won't be supported for as long as the SE 2020. The Plus phones are also really big, you've got to use two hands to use them comfortably and they don't fit into a pocket easily.

If I had to buy a phone right now and I didn't want to spend a lot of money, I would get the SE 2020, no doubt in my mind.

I just purchased an Apple refurbished 8 Plus a month ago. Upgrading from my 6 Plus I had for 6 years. Everything about the 8 Plus is great. It has the best screen on any iPhone ever made. It is plenty fast and with 3 GB of RAM, apps in the background always stay live. Also has the telephoto lens I use all the time.
Best iPhone Apple ever made.

If you use t mobile, the se offers support for band 71, while the 8 doesn’t. Depending on where you live, that could have a significant impact on your coverage.

I am leasing a iPhone 12, and might upgrade to iPhone 13.

But honestly, as a music lover, I loved the iPhone 8. And regret giving that up, cause loudspeakers are squeeky on iPhone 12 in comparison ?

Will a refurbished iPhone 8 plus last until 2024 security-wise ?
And the iPhone 8 ?

Security:
I used an iPhone 6 Plus running on iOS 9 for 6 years until recently. Never updated the OS, never ran into malware (that I know of).
My current (new to me) IP8+ is running iOS 14 and I intend to do the same thing — never update it.
iPhone security has become a meme and scare tactic designed to churn sales.

I would go for the SE2020 as it’ll last longer… the A13 will be supported for many years allowing it to run third party apps long after the 8 has become redundant. I used the 8 for 2.5 years and loved it but there is no reason to pick up an old phone when a near identical one with much newer tech is available.

The 8 is severely outdated and slow. Used a normal 8 for a couple of months and it’s a terrible experience. Go with the SE. processor is a big jump.

Are you sure about the 8 being slow? I have the 7+, and I can't think of it being "slow". Overheating, yes, but never "slow." I would check the battery if you have performance issues as it might be due to the battery being too weak.

Exactly my 7+ does everything just fine. People get convinced they need “new” and have to justify it.

Ive got both:

SE2020 - Smaller form factor, faster A13 chip which results in better images than the 8 or 8+ taken from the single camera. Small 1800 Mh battery, although it can last 36 hrs with light/moderate use like myself.

8 Plus - Very bulky size and heavy, about the same size as the 13 Pro Max. Dual camera's with telephoto lens, but the images are not as good as the SE 2020. 3D Touch enabled which is a handy feature. Larger 2675 Mh battery which lasted me 2 whole days on certain occasions (sometimes spans over 3 days). Higher res 1080p 401 PPI Full HD 5.5" screen, which is in my opinion one of Apples best displays of all time.

I think maybe the loudspeakers of the SE2020 could be the same as the 8, so I might go with that.

Thinking of switching my iPhone 12 with my mothers SE2020. What a wonderful son I am :)

I went from 11Pro -> 12Pro -> iPhone 8 -> 12 Pro
The 8 is way too slow and can’t multitask for ****. Horrendous user experience.( Battery swapped once already. )
Have a 7 at home too. The 8 and 7 are terrible phones to buy in 2022. The have old outdated processors and ram. Especially when comparing with the other option, the iPhone SE.

While I’d never buy the small iPhone 8 in 2022 (I have one) it’s still a very fast phone (at least mine is in iOS 14)

The iPhone 8 Plus on the other hand is (in my opinion) STILL the best iPhone made to this day because of its superior screen. (No PWM flicker).
I just purchased a refurbished one a few months ago and I am thrilled with it. It’s very fast (on iOS 14) and everything works perfectly. I’m super happy with it (and it’s better than any of the OLED iPhones).
I purchased an iPhone 13 Pro Max and returned it and got a 8 Plus instead — much better phone.

I guess I'm lucked out since I have the 7+ which has 3GB RAM. I guess 2GB RAM is getting its limits (which is what the regular 8 has). The only issue I have with my 7+ is the overheating and battery life (while in use).

To each their own. Mine does everything I need it to completely satisfactory and I could buy like 5 of them for the price of some of the new models.

I find them thoroughly inadequate with 4GB ram on the 11 pro and iPad Pro 2018. The bare minimum is 6GB which was solved by the 12Pro & 2020 iPad Pro’s. One of which I’m fortunate to own.

I just don’t see any reason to buy an iPhone 8 when the iPhone SE exists is all.
3D Touch isn’t **** vs the a13
