The only thing is, I am very skeptical a 9+ will ever see the light of day.
I was skeptical as well, until I saw Jon Prosser insist several times that it was real & it’s just delayed a bit. He’s been correct on all of his recent leaks, so I’m trusting his info until he’s proven wrong. Then there was also that iOS14 leak that mentioned a 5.5” model, but that’s not exactly conclusive. I’m just glad there’s hopefully going to be an option for us PWM-sensitive people 😁

Not sure I remember which tech site but this morning in my news feed they were saying next week April 14th is release date. Looking forward to seeing some reviews on this unit

9to5 Mac. They’re always ahead of Macrumors in terms of reporting some of the latest leaks/info regarding new products not released yet. Anyways, I say no later than Wednesday this phone ‘silently‘ launches. All I want to know is the price point, the specs‘ are pretty much obvious at this point.

What is the likelihood that Apple will make the announcement / remote presentation at their usual Apple time, followed by the new SE going on sale? Will there even be an official release? Trying to gauge if some of us on the East Coast will need to be up early as we normally do on order day, or if this launch will be in the afternoon.

Qualcomm Modem and no Dual Sim, $399.

Let see if this is true.
Considering the 11 and 11 Pro are dual SIM and using intel modem, I don't see why this 2020 SE should be different. It would cost Apple more money for such a lower-cost device to change the existing board and antenna design + manufacturing just to accommodate qualcomn modem. I don't know how much space the eSIM takes, but it's easier to just make all lineup dual SIM to simplify things.

It's a matter of personal preference. White bezels aren't distracting to me. Yes, I know there's a black border between the screen and bezels but I never really paid attention to it or the bezels whenever I'm immersed in the content of my phone.

White bezels don't look cheap to me. They look classy, pretty, and a bit retro (the original iPod was white) in my opinion.

I also don’t get the hate for white bezels - it’s good to have options.

Yeah, it’s a weird situation for sure. From what I’ve seen, the 9+ is definitely coming, it was just delayed due to production issues or something like that. Apple has never released the two sizes separately like this, it’ll be interesting to see what they do with the 8+ in the meantime.

Interesting? Oh yeah for sure. It's certainly something new that Apple hasn't ever done (assuming the 8+ remains in the lineup after the regular 9 'silently' releases). It'll likely be the best bezeled phablet Apple will ever release. Not too different from how the SE is most certainly the best device with a 4-inch display.

Definitely is! Sure, black bezels have pros (e.g. black border between screen and bezel invisible) but it's not like white bezels don't have pros. They do, including hiding fingerprints and being easier to find when you lose it (white generally sticks out more than black).

I don't hate the white bezels on the iphone 6/6s/7 and 8 as they have that retro look from the original ipod and iphone 4 and 5 series, but i personally prefer the black bezels as they blend in with the screen and appear more slim if this makes sense.

How long until there is definitive proof that a 9+ exists? I can see some people buying this 9 and then being bitter if the 9+ releases at a later date. Most people aren’t on forums like this.

The biggest issues with the white bezels for me is that either a) it makes the screen look yellowish (if it has a warm tone) or b) it makes the bezels look yellowish (if the screen has a blue tone).

SE2 Plus isn't expected until end of 2020 or early 2021. I don't think anyone will be bitter given it was never expected anytime soon.

It may not be super exciting if its only a souped up iPhone 8, but it would please a lot of customers.
I'm sure others will disagree with me of course. But I think that maybe a little twist to the design would have made it more exciting? And honestly I do not see this sell very well, covid19 situation aside.

Like what? I get what you’re saying, I just think if Apple is introducing design elements, it’s going to cost more money, which then transcends into more money the consumer has to pay.

This phone really is intended to be more ‘entry-level’ to create that gap of a wider demographic for those who don’t want to spend an exorbitant amount of money who don’t need the more expensive iPhones.

I don't design phones so I'm not sure. And why not just keep on selling the iPhone 8 then? Just reduce it's price if it's about an entry level iPhone. It still is a very capable phone.

You’re right, the iPhone 8 is a very capable phone. They could simply just upgrade the processor/ram and that’s all it technically would need. But I suspect Apple just wants a ‘one size’ phone with some upgraded internals, but they probably need to market it in some way that it’s a ‘new’ phone in their lineup.

And being this phone won’t receive any specialized keynote, it should be interesting to see how they make it known that this is a new phone in their lineup, being it’s intended as a silent release.

That's why a small design change would have been a good thing. Nothing too drastic but something that would give it a physical difference. Maybe thinner bezels or a dual camera, new colors... Something. Because again, the iPhone 8 is still great, the SE will look identical to it and mainstream consumers don't really know about the internals like that. But I guess since it's replacing the iPhone 8 that still sells
well it should be just fine.

I haven’t been following closely, but from what I understood most people expected the phones to launch simultaneously and then recently assumed the plus would be delayed for a short period of time.

The first rumor for SE2 Plus came from Ming-Chi Kuo where he predicted it would launch 1H21. More recently, 9to5Mac had access to an early copy of iOS 14 and was able to confirm the SE2 Plus.

So the absolute earliest would be September 2020 or whenever iOS 14 launches. The people who thought SE2 Plus was coming soon are unfortunately setting themselves up for disappointment as there is nothing credible to support that.

Because it would be similar to iPhone 8 rather than iPhone 11. And iPhone 8 uses Qualcomm Modem.

The fastest iPhone to date, with a great camera and long term updates and support?! It will sell amazingly well, even with the global pandemic thanks to online orders and over the phone carrier deals.
Plus they will run an advert highlighting the price in newspapers and on TV which will get the word out.

It’s only tech people and fans who watch and pay attention to keynote anyway. Normal everyday people don’t even know what one is!

I think those thinking it won’t sell well are in for a surprise, remember just how well the original SE was selling even last year in the Apple clearance section, it sold out almost immediately when inventory was added each day.

This is an iPhone 8. I truly don't find it exciting to say the least.

It’s not meant to be exciting, that’s what the 12 will hopefully be later this year, it’s meant as a reliable, familiar iPhone that is at a price point most can afford, especially via a carrier or finance deal as it will be peanuts per month compared to the Pro models.

People’s accessories, cables etc will all work and there are a lot of people who don’t like change.

You say it’s just an 8, but that was just a 7, just a 6S and just a 6 really. Still sold great though, even when other manufacturers were making bigger phones with bigger screens. The older generations don’t want or need that, change can scare people when it comes to technology.
