Apple on Friday opened pre-orders for the new third-generation iPhone SE with 5G connectivity through its website and the Apple Store app, and estimated delivery times have since slipped into late March for select configurations in the United States.

Pre-orders for all configurations of iPhone SE opened with an estimated delivery date of March 18, but customers in the United States ordering any version of the iPhone SE are now facing an estimated delivery window of March 29, or March 28 if additional shipping costs are paid. All configurations of the iPhone SE will be available for launch day in-store pickup on March 18, but inventory could run out quite quickly for some configurations.

Apple on Friday also started accepting orders for the new iPad Air, which remains available for launch day delivery on March 18 at the time of writing this.

I don’t expect this phone to ‘sell out’, when it doesn’t nearly have the marketing as Apple‘s more expensive iPhones in September. But I do expect this phone to sell well long-term. And I think that’s what this device is more intended to be, is not overly hyped, but a practical upgrade and widely available without all the ‘Pro’ features that may not matter to various consumers.

This looks like an awesome update to the se 2 I would get it myself if I was still using the se 2 But I just upgraded to a iPhone 12 mini I bought from a cousin of mine and I must say this is a really great phone???

I'm not so sure, I think people slowly do get tired of its design with so much potential display space being wasted on bezels.

My guess is that it will sell worse than the 2020 SE and the next SE we will see will be in the iPhone 12 mini chassis (especially if there won't be an iPhone 14 mini). Then they can again re-use old assembly lines, strip it of some of its 'Pro' features like FaceID, integrate TouchID into a side button instead and have a logical successor to the current SE.

Not sure what happened with the editing of the story!

”estimated delivery times have since slipped into late March for select configurations in the United States.”

Followed by this:
“… customers in the United States ordering any version of the ‌iPhone SE‌ are now facing an estimated delivery window of March 29, or March 28 if additional shipping costs are paid.”

The phone looks exactly like a 6,7 or 8 , can’t believe people are buying the thing tbh 🤦‍♀️
The whole point of this phone is to be cheap, and people who don't care about the latest tech will probably be happier to pay 429$ for this phone than 499$ or more to get an all screen design or a more modern looking phone.

Why not just buy a secondhand 8 then ? Be a lot cheaper than these

I had so many issues with Touch ID I was glad to upgrade to my 13 pro max . Face ID is so much more reliable . This phone looks like a massive step backwards in functionality

This is future proofed, the 8 is not. My sister is upgrading her 6, bought at launch, to the se 2022, and I expect she will keep this phone just as long. The only reason she is upgrading from her 6 is that some of her apps are no longer supported.

I have a 12 mini, but I still prefer Touch ID.

Yep. I'm upgrading from the original se to the se 2022. Looking forward to the bigger screen and new design (before I had the original se I had the iPhone 5, so I'm kinda over the iPhone 5 design, I've had it for 10 years now!).

Right, the value equation still balances out for those who want a smaller iPhone with 5G at low price.

It's going to be very interesting to see what happens in September assuming they do indeed keep the iPhone 12 mini in the lineup and it moves into the $499 pricing slot vacated by the exiting iPhone 11. At that point, the only thing you lose vs. the SE is one processor generation (A14 instead of A15) and of course you still do get FaceID instead TouchID. It seems to me that, with mask use in sharp decline, you really have to outright loath FaceID to justify not paying the extra $70 for a phone that offers so many more features while giving up very little.

Now, they could "fix" this by dropping the iPhone 12 mini when the 13 mini slides down a rung. But then what do they put in the $499 pricing slot? Possibly nothing, I suppose. Either way, it'll be interesting to see how that goes.

I don't know if I could go back to a home button. Using my Touch for the first time in years was an experience. (You click twice to quit an app)

But I can see where it will be very popular. It's actually affordable.
