The home button of my SE is very "clicky" as well, but it depends on where I hit the button. So I can confirm the inconsistency you mentioned.

Here's the video I initially posted because of my rattling camera, but you can also hear the loud home button click at ~ 0:47. Really sounds like a very cheap computer mouse. :(

I was glad to see this thread, because I've noticed the same thing on my SE. If I push the button at all on the right side, it feels rattle and clicky. I've been trying to decide if I am being overly picky and crazy, or if I should just let it go. Maybe I'll take it in.

Thanks for all your replies. Shall I see if Apple can fix it?

Hmmm....
They change slightly with every generation.

If you think it's faulty, take it back to Apple to have them look at it or exchange. No one can tell you whether yours sounds/feels "right" or not.

If not happy take it to the Apple store and compare other units on display. Exchanging can have problems too.

Check your warranty coverage at Apple.com. I forget the exact address but it's easy to find. It doesn't matter where you bought it as long as it hasn't been a year yet.

Dude it's not an SE thing. It's an iPhone thing. People have had clicky issues on every iPhone since 2007, even more so since TouchID. Sometimes they're not perfect. Usually they are. Just take it back.

No clicky home buttons or rattles or tinted yellow screens here. I'd be pissed if I had some of the issues you guys have been having.

My new iPhone SE has a very distinct, very cheap sounding home button click. I've previously had an iPhone 4, 5 and various iPads over the years, but this something I've never experienced. I realize that the TouchID sensor made the home buttons louder than they were before, but mine is unbearable. I've compared the buttons with friends' iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus and it's similar but my SE is definitely louder and more plasticly sounding.

I'm not extremely picky when it comes to things like this but when you're laying in bed and you worry that the home button is so loud that you'll wake up your partner, something may be wrong.

I've contacted Apple and they sent a replacement, it comes today and I will come back and give an update.

You guys are asking for trouble obsessing over stupid things like this. If it works what's the problem?

I've had an embarrassing number of new iPhones and very very few are so called "perfect". The button rattles, crescent moon, home button shenanigans, non level volume up and down buttons, it's all within the margins of acceptable build quality.

For all these niggly little issues, they've ALL functioned perfectly. Leave and let be!

Good for you. Accept that kind of build quality. I and many others here won't. Buttons are fundamentally important when it comes to how the device feels. You are permanently hitting the buttons of your iPhone while using it. Would you like to be reminded every time that this is an inferior product?

I just cannot read any more of those incredibly stupid "advices" concerning imperfection and that everyone should just shut up and live with it.

Build quality is why I am with Apple. The first time I held an iPhone in my hand, I was just astonished how perfect it felt. If my margin for "acceptable build quality" was as big as yours, I'd probably buy my devices from any other company.

I don't make a $500 purchase often. To me, there's nothing wrong with assuring quality when buying something a) that's relatively expensive, and b) you're hoping to use dozens of times a day for the next 2-3 years.

Replacement phone arrived, home button is much, much quieter. I'm happy now. If you find your home button distractingly loud, get it checked out.

Nothing is perfect. You guys are chasing after something that doesn't exist on all things man made. Fretting over this little stuff will only bring you bad omens when real life sh! hits the fan. You'll realize how petty you were. Just imagine your friends reading your posts about iPhone button feels. Lol

My take on the loud and clicky home button is that it feels much more positive than the softer one when pressed.
However it does loosen up with plenty of use.

I returned the first iPhone and got a replacement with a home button that didn't suck. So no, I'm not chasing the unattainable, because now I have the iPhone that I expected from the beginning. Everyone has a different tolerance for imperfection — just because yours is higher doesn't mean everyone else's is wrong.

I noticed there is a click on the SE if you quickly release the home button. This is normal I assume? I don't have a click on a depression of the home button. :)

You just simply don't understand what Apple is all about and why they became so successful.
Funny thing is they're still killing it selling millions of units with clicky buttons, front cameras that shift, displays that also click so on so forth.

You know why? Because they're non issues.

I have used an iPhone SE for just over a year now. At the beginning its home button felt solid, but now it does have a tiny wobble to it. I have checked another "old" iPhone 6 and its home button has the same tiny wobble to it. Not an issue for me, as it does not affect the home button's performance at all. I guess it is a natural wear thing, so should not be an issue on iPhone 7 and after without a physical click to it.
