I had an iPhone 6 for 18 months and just last week finally added pictures to all my contacts to I could take advantage of the mini contact photos next to each conversation in Messages. Then I switched to the SE yesterday only to discover that the entire feature appears to be removed from the SE! 
Is this the case? Is there any way around it? Yeah I'm bummed that I added all those contact photos for nothing (though they do look nice on my other devices) but I was really enjoying them in my iPhone Messages list too!
