iPhone SE: No Contact Photos in Messages?

I had an iPhone 6 for 18 months and just last week finally added pictures to all my contacts to I could take advantage of the mini contact photos next to each conversation in Messages. Then I switched to the SE yesterday only to discover that the entire feature appears to be removed from the SE! 😡

Is this the case? Is there any way around it? Yeah I'm bummed that I added all those contact photos for nothing (though they do look nice on my other devices) but I was really enjoying them in my iPhone Messages list too!

It's not removed it's just not available on the smaller screens
