I got my new iPhone SE today and I’m having a odd issue. Thank can’t change the volume of my alerts like for example when someone texts me it’s always loud. The volume control goes up and down visually but has no effect. Very annoying. Anyone else With this issue? The volume works fine for music and YouTube

First and for-most with the obvious question, have you tried a hard reset by Holding the volume up/volume down and power button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.

Did you check in settings/sounds? You can set the alert volume there and also turn off or on whether or not the volume buttons adjust ringer and alert volume.

I suspect that the volume setting is off for ringer and alert volume to use buttons. You can adjust the volume with the slider or turn on the setting to use the buttons,

I had the same issue. It turns out it was turned off like the above poster mentioned. Same with my wife’s phone. Maybe they’re shipping them that way.

That was it, thank you! Not sure why they are shipping it that way. Fixed!
Did you set up as new? I think any time I did, it would go back to not being on, but when I restore from backup, that setting being on must be carried over.

Just got my SE yesterday, red 128 gb and restored from backup from my ip7. My volume with buttons was turned off. Haven't used it much to notice the issue, but thanks for bringing this up.

Many thanks Vinerider. My volume setting in Sounds and Haptics was zero on arrival, and your knowledge solved my problem. I also enabled changing the volume using the physical volume buttons.
