Apple plans to release a new iPhone SE with Apple Intelligence support, new iPad Air models, and an updated Magic Keyboard for the iPad Air at some point "early next year," according to a report today from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

The next iPhone SE will have a similar design as the iPhone 14, including an edge-to-edge screen with a notch, according to Gurman. This means the device will likely support Face ID, whereas the current iPhone SE has a Touch ID button. As mentioned, he also expects the device to support Apple Intelligence, which is currently available on the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and any of the new iPhone 16 models.

The new iPad Air models will apparently have "internal improvements," but Gurman did not provide any specific details. He also expects an updated version of the Magic Keyboard for both the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air, with some of the new features previously introduced on the latest iPad Pro version of the keyboard.

March and April are common months for Apple to announce new iPhone SE and iPad Air models, with a virtual event or press releases both possibilities.

Apple last updated the iPhone SE in March 2022, while the iPad Air lineup was last updated in May this year with the M2 chip and a first-ever 13-inch model.

Anyways, a bit early for another new iPad Air isn't it? Unless they plan to adopt the same chassis as the new iPad Pros.
It doesn’t sound like they would: “The new iPad Air models — codenamed J607 and J637 — will focus on internal improvements.”

this is great.

iPad Air is the device (in terms of processor speed) that most people need. no need for an iPad Pro's power.
the thing holding the Air back at this point is the last generation Magic Keyboard.
if this rumoured new keyboard for the Air is as good as the M4 iPad Pro Magic Keyboard, the sales of the Air will take off.
i hope "early" next year means by end February.

Just want to say thank you for keeping this article short. Seems like every news article posted on MacRumors is at least five paragraphs written like the writer is getting paid per word, and then there is even more fluff reiterating past news with multiple hyperlinks linking to previous articles. An article like this that is straight to the point is refreshing.

Edit: It seems I spoke too soon. A few minutes after I posted this, the article length was padded out with more information and is now five paragraphs… but my point above still stands.

The iPad Air being updated this soon makes absolutely no sense.
Unless they are just at the point where they want to move everything onto a 3NM process, but I honestly thought the M2 would stick around for a long time…

So… Maybe the iPad Air gets the M4 when the Pro next gets updated.

The real iPad that needs a CPU jump is the iPad 11, the current has a four year old A14. It at minimum should get the A16, but the A18 is what it deserves just like the new Mini.

iPhone SE 4 production starts in November, so the phone will be ready in time for holiday season but Apple obviously does not want the SE taking away from 16 sales, so maybe they announce in January and then release in March 2025.

Any speculation on what internal changes they could make to an updated Air? Could they add FaceID perhaps? Processor wise it seems powerful enough? Maybe more memory?

If Apple is going to release Apple intelligence on cheaper devices it has to be a price hike for the iPhone SE. It will cost exactly $499 and be the cheapest device you can get Apple intelligence on. The Apple Watch will able to access it only through your phone if you didn't pay over $500 for your watch. And since Apple is going to be Apple, that feature will not be brought into the cheapest iPad until it is as ubiquitous as spam email and about as valuable. For now, the paywall for AI will be set at $499.

I'm really interested in the new SE4. I'm using a 16PM right now but I still love the idea of a simple and light iPhone.
The expected 60Hz would still hurt, but not so much if it's 499,-

Anxiously awaiting a new iPhone SE. Still rocking my 2nd gen, but my battery has been at 78% for like, a year and a half now. (Side note, I do not think my % is accurate at this point. :p) I don't want a larger phone, I don't want a super expensive one, and I don't need 6 cameras.
