you guys go to some mental schools, here in england we can use our phones as calculators in some lessons haha
Hey guys,
sorry to bump an old thread, but i still haven't found what i'm looking for, and want to clarify a few details.
First, many of you have wondered what type of school i go to. I go to a public school in the US. But, we were recognized as a "Blue Ribbon School", so many administrators and teachers let that go to their head. They have a rigid military-like thinking that they think they need to be very very strict in order to keep that title.
I've heard horror stories of people who have been written up for an "Academic Integrity Violation" after getting their phone confiscated. The phone was searched and they were written up because they had vocab flash cards on their phone. it wasn't even test time! I have nothing like that on my phone, but i have a lot of religious/spiritual content, and even though they can't comment or say anything about that, I'd feel humiliated and violated that i had someone look over extremely personal information.
What i meant by 2 passcodes is that lets say my main lockscreen code is 5759 (which it isn't but just an example). if i type in 5759 at the lock screen, it unlocks like normal. But what i'm looking for is to make a second code that self destructs. So if 5759 unlocks like normal, lets say if 9999 is typed in, it executes code that totally deletes all data. You see what i'm trying to say?
The one thing the teachers are not is technology savvy. If i give them the self destruct code and then my iPhone goes wacko, then I'd be like "WHAT DID YOU DO WITH MY IPHONE!!!!????". and they'd be backpedaling. Technology goes wacko all the time here, and i doubt they'd think twice about the circumstances (i've done a similar thing before and it worked wonders).
I just have to lol everytime you say "self-destruct". "Wipe" would be a much better term in this case.
MobileMe Remote Wipe
To dispel any rumors on this, I have personally looked into it and ti is against your civil rights, but when you arwe on there campus they can violate them and search anything they will. BS rule if you ask me... what happened to privacy...
For obvious safety reasons, they'd want you to carry your phone. For obvious school reasons, teachers don't want the phones in the classrooms.
What safety reasons??? I went to HS before cell phones were popular or even affordable and we never had any problems. You know what happens if someone walks into a school and starts shooting? You freak out! You dont call or txt mommy to say "I'm in danger!", YOU FREAK OUT!
But lets say you are the 1 person that can stay level headed. So kid walks in, shoots someone.
Situations:
1.) You pull out phone to call someone, BAM you get shot, dead.
2.) You pull out phone to call/txt someone, shooter doesn't notice. You call mommy she freaks out come to school, get in way of police and interferes before the police can setup a parameter, BAM someone gets dead.
3.) You pull out phone, call 911. Dispatcher says already know and hangs up, BAM you get shot, dead.
4.) You pull out pho....BAM you get shot, DEAD.
5.) You stay calm, leave phone in pocket and listen to shooter and follow all directions. BAM shooter get snipe by SWAT team, dead.
Basically, there is no situation in which having a cell phone can help you out during class period time. Maybe after school when the office wont know where you should be. But during class time you should be contactable fairly easily.
The only reason to give a cell to a kid at school, is to start the placebo effect. Which is remember from your classes (unless you spent it on phone) happens when you introduce a new element designed to not do anything but make you think it is. I.E. give a kid a cell phone so you feel as though he is more safe. In reality, it would be safer if you gave him a camo shirt...
My school is about the same way. In fact, in 8th grade, I texted a girl during school (against the rules I know), later that day she got her phone taken away and the teacher that took it looked through it and saw my name. 2 hour detention for me.
Now in 10th grade, if they catch you with your phone, they ask for it. You can expect them to look through it every time, and once a friend of mine noticed texts with cuss words in his phone deleted after he got it back.
That's ridiculous, I know laws don't apply for a closed system like government required school - but that smacks of double jeopardy.
