For some context: I never touch my settings, I recently updated my device (11 Pro Max) to 15.5, and it is not jailbroken. I don't know how this would even happen but I'm curious:

Could/do iPhone settings could change after an update or on their own (doubtful but I have to ask)? I have always had my notification preview setting set to "when unlocked" but tonight I noticed I was seeing previews when my phone was locked. I disabled Face ID a few days ago and was curious if that had anything to do with it, but I tested my theory by reenabling/checking my settings after switching it back, but it remained unchanged. I updated the phone a week ago or so, but have just started noticing it tonight, so I'm also doubtful about that being the cause because I'm sure I would have noticed.

I'm just wondering how a setting could change by itself, I have had this paranoid and persistent worry that my iPhone has been maliciously compromised for so long and any blip in the software/function freaks me out LOL. It's been kinda glitchy lately which I've attributed to being an older(ish) phone that I've been a little rough with through the years, but I just wanted to get some opinions on why this notification thing may be. Thanks!

An update can activate deactived iCloud settings. Happened to me many times.

Besides that, updates more often than not introduce new features. If your phone is set up perfectly, an update will probably change that. Unless, of course, the default settings of the new features are exatly what you would have chosen.
