All I got to say to Apple is, since the Neo has an a18 Pro and has full monitor support, I want my iPhone to have full monitor support. Don't see any reason it shouldn't. iPhone's just a computer that fits in your pocket. It would be grand to have the ability to use it with a monitor, keyboard, and touchpad/mouse. Samsung and other smartphones can do it. Besides, we also already know that Apple's mobile OS can do monitor support, so just give it to us on the iPhone already.

OK, I forgot to specify that in no way am I suggesting that iPhone should take the place of your desktop or laptop....just my opinion that since A18 Pro gives the Neo extended monitor support, that it would be cool to have full extended monitor support for my iPhone. Am I the only one?

I agree. Full monitor support from my iPhone means I could retire my MacPro!

Edited my original post to clarify that I in no way would suggest that the iPhone should or could take the place of a MBP/MP. Just imo think it would be cool to have the full external monitor support for my iPhone. I wouldn't suggest that the Neo would be able to retire your MacPro either...😊

WHAT??? you mean I can't run 12 8K monitors with my iPhone???????

In all seriousness, it would be nice to have the ability to run a single monitor connected to an iPhone. iPad Air and iPad Pro models support one monitor. I have no need for it but I can see other people wanting to use a monitor with their iPhone.

If it could do everything my iPad does on an external monitor, plus maybe add in touch support, I'd be happy. I'd consider replacing my MacBook and iPad with it. Dock it at my desk for my desktop, and dock it to something like the Nexdock for my mobile needs.

There was an app called InfiniteX2P. I think it actually worked very well for this idea even on my old 14 Pro. It was fast and basically made your iPhone a docked desktop. It worked by letting you use windowed web-apps. Sadly, after 10 versions, Apple asked them to shut it down. So I’m pretty glad I didn’t end up switching to this for full time use.

Why ask for things that will never happen?
I don't know how to respond to your answer.

Are you serious?

Apple also made it clear that the iPad would never have extended monitor support, and people like you asked this very same question about the iPad to people like me that desired it. Don't give a 💩 about Samsung, and I have one of those iPads with extended monitor support that was never going to exist....even though I and countless others desired it and asked for it for years. I even replaced my MBP with it.😉 And, I answered you with a huge sigh and a

.

Apple also said there would never be pencil support for the iPad. So, my pessimistic doubtful friend...never say never!😉😊

I don’t really understand the use case here. Apple used an iPad chip in the original Apple silicon development kits, but it took years until iPad got “Mac like” last year actually. They are as the rumors say apparently adding a way to run two apps at the same time in the fold/ultra, perhaps with that?

I guess it depends on the person using their iPhone and what their use cases are. From a little Google research, I found that Approximately 16% of U.S. adults exclusively use their smartphones for internet access. Globally, nearly 60% of web traffic comes from mobile devices, and 1 in 4 people use their smartphones exclusively for online access. A significant amount of people (15% US and 51% Globally) also use the smartphone as their primary computing device.

My iPad Pro and iPhone are used for about 90% of my computing experience while my Mac Mini gets used primarily for maintenance and as a storage server. My iPad Pro and Logitech Combo Touch completely replaced my MBP over 3 years ago as my primary mobile work device, with my iPhone sharinging about 30 to 40% of that role. I use my iPad Pro at home with a monitor and without for both work and play.

While a smartphone isn't going to overtake the laptop or desktop market any time soon, I do believe that a significant amount of people would find it convenient(myself included) to be able to use the device they have with them most...with an external monitor, keyboard, and touchpad/mouse as a matter of not only convenience, but as a matter of simplicity and economics. With the cost of smartphones today(I paid $1,100 for my 256gb 13PM), it wouldn't be unwarranted or unreasonable to expect a device this powerful and mobile to be able to do most of what a traditional computer can do.

I do know for sure that my iPhone is magnitudes more powerful than my first several computers from the 80's and 90's, and even into the early 2,000's. It doesn't seem odd or strange to me that people would want a device they use for a significant amount of their digital experience to have extended monitor support. I know I greatly appreciate it with my 11 inch iPad Pro.

The way I see it, I suspect that you and others who want this, fall largely into the same group as those who want a foldable. I see the concept as similar because both groups are trying to get a larger display out of a smaller device.

If I can see that, then probably Apple can too. In which case, with all the rumors of a foldable iPhone to come soon, you have to wonder if allowing full monitor support on the iPhone might impinge on the sale of foldables. Particularly, if there is also a cry for foldables to have full monitor support as well.

IDK. I just kind of see it as similar. The idea behind both groups is mobility, the ability to take your 'computer' with you and have a larger screen wherever you are. Unfortunately for me, I'm stuck in the 'for every device there is a specific purpose' mentality and using my iPhone as a computer is not a purpose I see for a phone.

I totally understand why you'd want this though.

Yeah, I would never expect my phone to replace what a traditional computer can do. I already ditched my MBP for my iPad Pro 3 years ago for my mobile work needs, so the phone being able to support an external monitor wouldn't be a far stretch for me. Just a matter of mobility and convenience to be able to carry less. My real estate and property management work needs are more than met by what iOS and iPad OS can do. Like I mentioned earlier, I do have a Mac Mini for maintenance and storage server needs. AFAIC I'm lucky that I really like my iPad and iPad OS and that they cover my work needs. I wish it worked for more people. I wish you could do MacOS in a virtual environment on the iPad. That would really make me happy.

This seems like a very small, niche use case. Given that Apple already makes different devices with different screen sizes to better address the need of various individuals, I can't see them putting time and money into something like this. iPhone mirroring has come in handy at times. However, as a general rule, if I want to look at a bigger web screen than my iPhone, I will grab one of my iPads, or use my iMac or Neo.

If gaming wasn't an interest, I'd like to try a setup like this. Having the one compute device, as multiple devices would be redundant for me. Sometimes you just need a desktop OS and browser to do stuff and the ergonomics that go with it.

Tried using an iPad as a main device, but missed said desktop OS. Tried a Macbook but didn't really need the portability and was about to turn in into a permanent desktop with an external display, but went with a PC so I could game.

Interesting idea but why is the Samsung dex system not revolutionary ideas and devices? They literally do what you’re requesting but I wonder why most Samsung Users don’t ditch the laptop or desktop for their smartphone and monitor setup? Hell I know of several Samsung user and none report their use case is dex and writing email and power spreadsheet on their phone.

If a phone (with ample power, which they do have now) could connect to a screen and run macOS, then be controlled by keyboard and mouse then it would be convenient for most undemanding work.

But it would also mean folks might just buy only a phone and not a laptop computer. Might be bad for the Apple finances. 😉

Got to be sure they spend $3000 on a computer and $1000 on a phone as well.

The smaller battery sizes of iPhones is probably the main reason they have not done it, but then of course you could argue that Samsung have Dex mode on their phones. Also they want you to buy iPads to do this, so its about money as usual.

With the phone connected by cable to a screen that should not be a problem. It will charge.

I know a lot of people with Samsung phones, but not a single person that has ever used Dex, or has any interest in it when I've told them about it.

As I said previously, Not looking to replace my Mac Mini or PC's but I would like it for convenience and the ability to see my iPhone screen bigger. My iPhone is my most used computer device. If I could just dock it, I could do most everything I do daily. I already replaced my MBP with my iPad Pro, and I like both iOS and iPad OS a lot. Just because you don't know someone who would appreciate this, doesn't mean many of us don't exist. It does make sense both economically, and convenience wise. People have said for years that the iPad can't replace a Mac or PC. Well yes it can for a growing number of people. So, never say never...or that nobody wants it.😉
