You've been able to do that since activation was bypassed ages ago.By unlocking it, can we use it as an iPod+WiFi ?

My brother and I just unlocked his gf's iphone last night. She was currently on a BB plan, with unlimited text and data, and the iphone is working without any problems thus far.

Unlocking a cell phone may be, however, in this case to do so you are breaking the software license by modifying the iPhone's OS. So in fact unlocking the iPhone itself is not illegal, doing so in a way that modify's the OS does break the software license agreement which is illegal.
I know this may seem a strange question, but I'm already an AT&T customer for many years, with a phone that just died, no data plan, and several discounts I don't want to use.
Can I unlock the iPhone and use my AT&T sim card, or does it seem like AT&T are at blocking that ? They must have some info on which device a caller is using. (but I may not understand GSM)
